Failed Subsea Flow Meter - Wet Gas Well - North Sea The successful application of Oilfield Data Services Inc.’s (ODSI) Virtual Metering solution, with failed subsea flow meters in two North Sea wet gas wells, saved the operator at least $4 million per well by avoiding the installation of subsea multiphase flow meters (MPFMs). This case study delves into the use of the Well Analyzer Automated Real-Time System (ARTS) for real-time well performance monitoring, including automated rate calculations, PVT adjustments, and pressure transient analysis. This approach helped in accurately calculating gas rates, detecting errors in allocations, and meter calibration. The solution was particularly effective in optimizing field development and net present value (NPV), as well as in the ongoing surveillance and analysis of well performance. 🚨 Optimisation of a Gas-Lifted System with Nonlinear Model Predictive Control 💡A gas-lifted system in a mature oil well can experience casing-heading instability, which reduces the mean oil production and it is not healthy for the downstream equipment. This instability was removed by implementing a terminal equality-constrained nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) having input targets with control zones in the system. The input-dependent stability behaviour of the gas-lifted system was visualised through the bifurcation diagram and the step responses of the linearised model at various operating points. The controller was then presented. Then, the close-loop feasibility, as well as the convergence, were discussed. 💡The controller stabilised the undisturbed gas-lifted system, improving production by 5.63% compared to the open-loop operation when the system was in casing-heading instability. For the two input case, the steady-state production, aided by the high-input target, reached 12.25 kg/s, which was far more than 9.57 kg/s for the one input case. This controller showed a 3.76% improvement over the PI controller for the same purpose. notice that ,in the most wells and oilfields, we install a choke valve for Gas injection or a choke plate after gas injection valve ( between flanges) . it's the weather temperature (winter or summer) that basis calculations for choke size for injection , for example 5_/32 inche for cold weather or a smaller size than it for summer injection that weather is hot (for example 3_/32 inche) . if your gas injection source has "gas hydrate" it may frost the gas pipe injection in winter and causes that all injection stop . in some fields, we inject gas from tubing and product oil from casing. calculations are different in oilfields. most calculations like this post an others are only on paper and can't operational. . . . #gaslift #drilling #energy #production #engineering #safety #wellhead #pipeline
