In the evolving field of street medicine, real change is happening in how we care for those without homes. California is leading the way, with 64 street medicine providers offering care directly to those living on the streets—making it the most significant hub in the country. Groups like Healthcare in Action, founded by Sachin Jain, show that treating homelessness and illness together can save lives and reduce hospital costs. Thanks to innovative Medicaid funding, their revenue has soared from $2 million to $15.4 million since 2021. However, as street medicine becomes more integrated into the healthcare system, there are concerns about corporatization and the loss of the spirit of social justice that started the movement. 🚨 New resource: ‘Supporting people with ME/CFS in hospital’ In response to increasing requests for advocacy support from people with ME/CFS in hospital, including more severely affected, the 25% M.E. Group, Action for M.E., Blue Ribbon for the Awareness of ME, and the ME Association have co-produced a new resource. It is designed to help patients, carers and family members advocate for their needs, frequently referring to the 2021 NICE guideline for ME/CFS and outlining why people with ME/CFS may need reasonable adjustments, alongside key considerations when treating people with ME/CFS for outpatient and inpatient visits. 🔗 Read more and access the resource: https://ow.ly/eQ1R50S1PQy
