🩺 November is Diabetes Awareness Month. It may come as a surprise that 98 million Americans are diagnosed with prediabetes, which is when blood sugar is higher than normal but not high enough to meet diagnostic criteria for Type 2 diabetes. Prediabetes is one of the risk factors of Type 2 diabetes, along with: ◻️ Being overweight ◻️ Being 45 or older ◻️ Having a close family member with Type 2 diabetes ◻️ Lack of physical activity (i.e.: being physically active less than three times a week) ◻️ Having had gestational diabetes ◻️ Being African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American, or Pacific Islander The good news is that prediabetes may be reversed. With regular exercise, managing diet, and relieving stress, the risks of developing Type 2 diabetes may be reduced. Talk to your Kelsey-Seybold primary care clinician if you think you may be at risk for Type 2 diabetes. #KelseySeyboldClinic #DiabetesAwareness #HealthyLiving

November is the World Diabetes Month. And as a primary care provider, there is no day that passes by that I don't see at least 2 patients who are living with diabetes. This is why it is important for me to talk about it so that everybody can learn about diabetes and how to prevent it or how to manage it if you're living with diabetes. Diabetes or sugar disease is a chronic disease that occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin or does not effectively use the insulin it produces to regulate blood sugar that the cells need to function. It can be very dangerous to your health because when not controlled, it can lead to blindness, stroke, heart attack, kidney failures, toes or leg amputation. According to the World Health Organization, there were 830 million people with diabetes worldwide in 2022, and half of these people were not taking medication. There are two types of diabetes, which are type 1 diabetes where the pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin have been destroyed, leading to lack of insulin. Then there is type 2 diabetes, which is due to variable degree of insulin resistance and deficiency. It is the most common type of diabetes in adults. #worlddiabetesmonth #diabetes #diabetesawareness #diabetesawarenessmonth #highbloodsugar #diabetesmellitus #sugardisease #fypage #fyp #highlights #followers #hemoglobina1c #fastingbloodsugar #bloodsugar #bloodglucose #diabetesrisk

Even though Type 2 Diabetes is most often preventable, and for some people even reversible, most patients do not even get the most basic counseling to help them. 😢 In fact, according to the CDC, it is estimated that more than 80% of Americans with prediabetes don’t even know that they have it. 😭 And without this basic knowledge, how can they be expected to prevent developing type 2 diabetes? Not only that, but even when prediabetes and type 2 diabetes are diagnosed, traditionally people are just prescribed medications to just MANAGE their blood sugars, rather than addressing the root cause of insulin resistance, with the goal of type 2 diabetes PREVENTION and REVERSAL, which we know may be possible! We can do so much better!!!! As a board certified physician, this is why I created my corporate and online programs. It is my mission to empower people of all demographics and education levels with the guidance, support, and tools to prevent and reverse disease, and live their best life! Diabetes is a chronic disease that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high. It affects 1 in 10 adults worldwide. Symptoms of diabetes include: 👉 Feeling very thirsty 👉 Blurred vision 👉 Feeling tired 👉 Needing to urinate more often than usual 👉 Losing weight unintentionally Type 1 diabetes is not preventable. It is an autoimmune condition where the body’s immune system attacks itself and stops the body from making insulin. Type 2 diabetes can often be prevented with healthy lifestyle, such as: ✅ Keeping a healthy body weight ✅ Staying physically active ✅ Eating a healthy diet ✅ Quitting tobacco The best way to detect diabetes early is to get regular check-ups and blood tests with a healthcare provider. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to preventing diabetes complications. #WorldDiabetesDay #DiabetesDay #Awareness
