The Residential Outdoor Education (Wales) Bill, proposing a funded entitlement for children in Wales, is continuing its journey through the Senedd, and the debate in the Senedd itself will happen In April. Prior to that, the committees responsible for scrutinising the proposals will be reporting their recommendations soon, and, whatever the outcome, the Bill has raised the profile of outdoor education/learning significantly. The news report and debate on 'Sharp End' (start at 22:35 in) are worth a look 👇 #outdooreducation #outdoorlearning #equityineducation https://lnkd.in/eP6g3twh

EMPOWERING DIGNITY: A Heartfelt Outreach at the Leprosarium Oke-Igbala I had the privilege of conducting an outreach program at the Leprosarium in Kwara state, an experience that left an indelible mark on my heart. In a world often preoccupied with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it's easy to overlook those who need our care and compassion the most. My mission was simple yet profound: to promote personal hygiene and dignity among the residents of the Leprosarium. I distributed dignity bags filled with essential toiletries such as bathing soap, sponges, laundry powder, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. These seemingly small items carry immense significance in restoring a sense of pride and self-worth to individuals often marginalized by society. But it didn't stop there. Recognizing the importance of education in breaking the cycle of poverty, I packed the items in backpacks that doubled as school bags for the children of the lepers. It was heartwarming to witness the joy and gratitude on their faces as they received these simple yet invaluable gifts. In addition to hygiene kits, I provided food and drinks, offering nourishment for both body and soul. It was a humbling experience to be able to make a tangible difference in the lives of these resilient individuals. As I reflect on the outreach at the Leprosarium, I am reminded of the profound impact that acts of kindness can have on the lives of others. Together, let's continue to spread love, compassion, and dignity to those who need it most. #socialworker #communityservice #overcomersfoundation #lifesmosturgentandpersistentquestioniswhatareyoudoingforothers

How many children are not getting an education and missing vital opportunities for social and personal development because they don't 'fit into the box'? This project sounds amazing and we need far more alternative options like this for children and young people who think, learn and experience the world around them in different ways. We need to change the environment, not the children. https://lnkd.in/eqDPFqkp #Education #SpecialEducationalNeeds

Excited to kick off a new series this week, partnering with Taylor Allgood, MPA-SJ from the AU's food pantry "The Market" We are tabling in the residence halls and raising awareness about Basic Needs Insecurity. Over the next two weeks, I’ll be connecting with both first-year and upper-division residents, sharing resources AU offers to support students in meeting their essential needs. It’s important that every student knows where to turn for help, and I can’t wait to engage with the community! #StudentSupport #BasicNeeds #AUResources #CommunityBuilding"

Why DON'T we put them in charge? If I had five minutes to come up with the best ideas to save humanity, I would start with giving children more responsibility in their family and schools. Put children in charge of the care and feeding of animals. (That's right, have animals at your home and school. Animals of all kinds are good for children and they will be transformed by nurturing them). Put children in charge of the growing and harvesting of plants. (Yes- have both indoor and outdoor gardens. Have terrariums, aquariums, arboretums, and grow as many plants in your home and school as you can. ). Put children in charge of building and tending fires. (Indeed, expose children to fire and all of its benefits. Melt metal, make your own charcoal, fire clay into pottery, cook food). Put children in charge of teaching others. (We learn best from teaching others). Put children in charge of policing the playground. Put children in charge of cleaning the shores of creeks and ponds. (Make sure all children have access to creeks and ponds if possible. This is important). Put children in charge of as much of the rule-making as possible. Put children in charge of as many democratic processes as possible. Put children in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of their schools and homes. (Train them to clean, paint, scrub, shine, cut, trim, mow, sew, wax, polish, dust, and disinfect). Put children in charge and they will learn to run this world, and run it right.

Sponsor-A-Camper this year & give the gift of Summer Camp fun & exploration for a child in need! For youth from economically-challenged homes, the opportunity to enjoy a carefree summer spent learning and playing outdoors might be an impossible dream. Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge invites you to help give these children respite from the reality of their daily struggles and empower them with a connection to the natural world with a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to attend summer camp through the Sponsor-a-Camper Initiative. We know that the economic effects of the last year have been exceptionally hard on some families. Families are struggling with work, childcare, and education opportunities. We feel that shouldn’t exclude kids from having a carefree summer and an enriching camp experience. Our goal is to raise $3,000 with this initiative. This is enough to send 10 under-served campers to Cedar Run’s camp. Every penny will be used to provide a valuable experience for campers who may otherwise not be able to come. We are 20% funded so far! Please consider sponsoring a camper this year! If you are interested in sponsoring a camper this year, or learning more about this initiative, click the link: https://loom.ly/vGdZGqg #summercamp #sponsor #camp #summer #explore #cedarrun
