🚀 Hack Weeks: A Catalyst for Innovation and Team Health 🚀 At Spotify, we believe in the power of innovation and the magic that happens when teams come together to explore, create, and solve. That’s why Hack Weeks are a cornerstone of our culture. Some might wonder, “Is it okay to take a week off from regular work?” Here’s the gotcha: during Hack Week, we’re not stepping away from work—we’re diving deeper into it. We’re taking a break from the routine to discover new ideas and solutions that we can bring back to enhance our user experience. Hack Weeks are more than just a break; they’re a necessity. Healthy teams do healthy things, like dedicating time to hack away at problems, push boundaries, and unleash their creativity. It’s during these weeks that we see some of our most innovative ideas come to life. To all teams out there: embrace your Hack Weeks. They’re not just about taking a break—they’re about fueling your next big leap forward. #Innovation #TeamHealth #HackWeek #Spotify #EngineeringLeadership

How my script was flipped between 2020 and 2024. 2020 Me: Stuck in the corporate maze, thanks to an acquihire. Begging overworked devs for favors they couldn’t squeeze in. Politics over coffee, and not the fun kind. “Enjoying” work trips that felt more like detours. 2024 Me: Connecting with brilliant people globally on innovative projects. Leading a dream team of 80+ amazing individuals, each a legend in their own right. Crafting not just projects but meaningful, lifelong bonds in my industry. Home in time to be the bedtime story hero. The Glow-Up: Four years. That’s all it took to flip the script. From navigating the corporate labyrinth to meeting brilliant minds, building a powerhouse team, and making irreplaceable friends in the trenches of an industry I’m all in on. Here’s to life's journey and how fast and unexpectedly it can turn!

𝑯𝒐𝒘 is it the end of 𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒌 8 of my (still new-ish) adventure at BetterLesson? Yes, that means I must be 2/3 of the way through that very important first 90 days... So many lessons to reflect on, moments to celebrate, and things to look forward to. 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭, 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝... There are three books sitting within my eyeline at all times (they're in the photo here). I've read 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 90 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 three times now. And still, I have relearned in these last 8 weeks lessons I've learned before and read enough of in this book. Listen more than you talk. Learn before you act. Don't allow pressure to deliver value (or prove it) -- internal or external -- push you to move too fast. 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞... These are, luckily, too many to count. Getting to know the amazing educators and marketers I get to work with here, doing the work, hearing from my educator friends about seeing our work here in a new light and about how helpful it's been for me to be sharing my lessons learned along the way... Also, joining my amazing team & leadership for some in-person strategy work together (and amazing food), seeing my colleagues and amazing partners presenting their story at a conference, and joining my CEO and so many new friends and old at #edtechweek. (And grateful to be home for a bit before the next trip.) 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨... These, also, are too many to count. And innumerable, I'm sure. This marketing team is going to build some incredible things onto the work they've already done. All of the folks here are working together to build the future of K12 professional development, and that will impact millions of students and educators for years to come. (And yes, obviously, I meant to post 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 because algorithm and because Friday at almost 6pm on a long weekend is clearly the moment everyone's sitting around, clicking refresh on their feeds, wondering how week 8 went. But here I am, faithfully doing my reflections and sharing it with you.)
