Today, I had the opportunity to hear from the Honorable Mike Johnson, U.S. Speaker of the House. He used a metaphor that resonated with me. Johnson talked about what he did in Louisiana as a kid when a hurricane struck. Whenever the skies got dark and the world got dim, he would focus on fixed points on the horizon to anchor himself and know where to go or what to do. It’s a beautiful idea, when skies are dark, fix your gaze on a point in the horizon. Although he gave it in the perspective of politics, I think the principle can apply to all points of our lives. Fix your eyes on a point on the horizon. The political scene, work, health, the uncomfortable parts of life can feel damp and dreary like a daily hurricane. To get through dark times, fix your eyes on the horizon. I think fixing your eyes on the horizon alludes to both optimism and mindfulness, or maybe even better said mindfulness yielding optimism. When we choose to see the potential of a brighter future and focus on it, no matter what is happening or not happening in our lives, we are able to persist. So whatever industry or personal circumstance, fix your eyes on the horizon, on a brighter tomorrow. What is something that you choose to anchor your focus on?

In life, there are moments when the storm clouds roll in, seemingly halting our flight. "Monarch butterflies will not attempt to fly in the rain because the raindrops will damage their wings. They will rest and wait it out. It’s self-preservation. It’s okay to rest during the storms in your life. Take all the time you need. You will fly again once the storm passes." -Sharyn March, Poet, Leave Her Wild This resonates deeply with leaders and teams I have the privilege of coaching. In our relentless pursuit of excellence and growth, it's vital to remember that resting isn't quitting; it's an act of self-preservation. Like the monarch butterflies, we must acknowledge when to pause, to protect our wings from the deluge life brings our way. When those storms of life loom large, and they will….remember it's not only okay to seek shelter; it's necessary. The pause is a powerful choice. It gives us the space to rejuvenate, to recalibrate, and to emerge stronger, once the skies clear. If you are in a season of stress and overwhelm, remember that after the rain comes renewal. The storms will pass, and you will fly again. #LeadershipLessons #SelfPreservation #GrowthMindset #Resilience

Did You Know That Butterflies Rest When It Rains? Just like butterflies, we all face storms in our lives. 🌧️ When the rain falls, these delicate creatures take a moment to pause and protect their wings from damage. They understand that sometimes, resting is not a sign of weakness but a necessary step toward recovery. Life can be unpredictable, and challenges may come our way when we least expect them. It’s okay to take a break, gather your strength, and wait for the storm to pass. Just as the butterfly emerges stronger and more vibrant after the rain, so too will you rise again. Remember, it’s in these moments of rest that we can reflect, recharge, and prepare for the next chapter of our journey. Embrace the storms; they are temporary. Your wings will dry, and you will soar again! 🌈✨ Keep believing in yourself and your ability to overcome. The skies will clear, and you’ll be ready to take flight once more! #Motivation #Resilience #PersonalGrowth #ButterflyEffect #Inspiration

Took this picture last week… and it hit me , Mother Nature Weathering the Storm: Embracing Life's Ups and Downs Life is a journey filled with both positive energy and storms. In the good times, the skies are clear, and everything seems to fall into place effortlessly. These are the moments to cherish, to soak in the warmth of success, love, and happiness. But what truly defines us is how we face the storms. Bad times are inevitable. They come as sudden downpours or lingering clouds that obscure the light. It’s during these moments that our resilience is tested. Just as a tree grows stronger in the wind, we, too, grow through adversity. It’s in the storms that we discover our strength, patience, and the importance of hope. Remember, every storm eventually passes. The key is to hold on, keep moving forward, and trust that brighter days are ahead. Whether the sun is shining or the rain is pouring down, we must keep going. Life’s storms are not meant to drown us but to cleanse us, to renew our spirit, and to remind us of the beauty that comes after the rain. #Resilience #KeepGoing #weatherthestorm

🌧️ Rainy day confession: Yes, it's raining here in Seattle! 🌧️ Contrary to popular belief, the rain isn't constant, but when it does come, it feels like it's here to stay. Much like our unpredictable weather, life's challenges can be viewed through a similar lens. It's like the water in the cup - it can quench our thirst and revitalize us or leave us feeling down that we don't have enough, depending on how we look at it. In the Great PNW, rain is both a blessing and a nuisance. It nurtures our lush greenery and fills our lakes, yet it disrupts plans and dampens spirits. I am choosing to see the rain as a symbol of growth and opportunity. Instead of focusing on the inconvenience, I'm going to embrace it as a chance to cleanse, rejuvenate, and cultivate resilience. Are you under a raincloud? Or looking for the rainbow? My mantra for the day: Every raindrop brings with it the promise of renewal. 🌿💧 #SeattleRain #PerspectiveShift #EmbraceChallenges #PersonalGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment #Optimism #RainyDayReflections

Is the Rain Ever Gonna Stop? Then I Read This Powerful Quote... (It Changed Everything!) Rain pummeled my window, mimicking the storm raging inside. A project flopped, a friend fight exploded, and a suffocating feeling of "stuck" squeezed the air out of me. Scrolling through social media, negativity piled on like a soggy blanket – perfect vacations, flawless lives... ugh! About to launch my phone into oblivion, a post stopped me cold. It mentioned Robert Frost and a 3-word life lesson that WHACKED me awake: "It goes on." Whoa, right?! No matter how crappy things seem, the sun will rise again. The rain will stop. Life, in all its messy glory, will keep on moving. A tiny ember of hope ignited. Maybe this slump wasn't forever. Maybe new beginnings were lurking just out of sight. Feeling inspired, I had to share this! Because sometimes, all we need is a reminder, a friendly nudge to see the light even in the darkest moments. ✨ So, tell me your stories! How'd you conquer your storms? What fuels your fire when life throws punches? Let's build each other up, one story at a time. Together, we can keep moving forward, because remember... IT GOES ON! This quote suggests that not all challenges or difficulties (represented by storms) are meant to hinder or harm us. Some are meant to: 1. Clear away obstacles and barriers that prevent us from moving forward. 2. Remove toxic or harmful elements from our lives. 3. Make room for new growth and opportunities. 4. Strengthen our resilience and character. 5. Bring new perspectives and insights to help us navigate our journey. Just as a storm can clear the air and bring fresh rain to nourish the earth, some challenges can clear our path and bring new life to our journey. Remember, not all storms are destructive; some are constructive and bring much-needed change. By embracing this perspective, we can: 1. Approach challenges with hope and optimism. 2. Find the silver lining and lessons in every storm. 3. Trust that the universe is working in our favor, even when the path ahead seems uncertain. 4. Cultivate gratitude for the storms that clear our path and bring new blessings into our lives. Keep in mind, it's not always easy to see the positive side of a storm, but with time, patience, and self-reflection, we can come to understand the value of these experiences and how they shape us.

Have you ever been caught in a storm? Not just the kind with dark clouds and howling winds, but a storm of life—when nothing seems to go right and the weight of it all bears down on you? Right now, Boston feels like it’s living through both. Just days ago, we were basking in beautiful sunshine, thinking maybe, just maybe, fall would linger a little longer. But then came an early winter storm, drenching us with nonstop rain and whipping us with relentless wind. It’s as if nature decided to remind us that life doesn’t always follow our plans. Yet, as I watch the storm unfold, I’m struck by a simple truth: it will pass. It always does. Storms, whether in weather or in life, have a way of making us feel stuck, like the gray skies will never lighten. But if there’s one thing we know, it’s that no storm lasts forever. Difficult times, no matter how overwhelming, are just temporary stretches in the marathon of life. They test us, yes, but they also teach us resilience. Much like how the rain nourishes the earth in its wake, challenges often leave us stronger, wiser, and more grateful for the sunshine when it returns. It’s easy to feel defeated in the midst of the chaos, but it’s also an opportunity to remind ourselves that even in the darkest moments, brighter days are just beyond the horizon. If you’re weathering a storm of your own right now, hold on. Take heart in knowing that this moment—no matter how turbulent or endless it feels—will eventually pass. The skies will clear. The winds will calm. And you will step forward, carrying the strength you’ve built from enduring. Life, like nature, is always shifting. Trust that behind every gray sky is a patch of blue waiting to break through. Keep going, one step at a time, and know that brighter days are indeed ahead. A storm is never the end; it’s simply a chapter on the way to a clearer, brighter story. #mirandism #unapologetic #unapologeticdude #badtimespass #everythingshifts #temporary

Fall: The Season of Transition The idea that fall is the "spring of winter" beautifully captures the season's essence as a time of transition. Just as spring heralds the awakening of nature after the dormancy of winter, fall signals the beginning of a new cycle, albeit one that leads towards a period of rest and renewal. Here are some more thoughts on fall: A Season of Change and Beauty: Nature's Transformation: Fall is a time of vibrant colors as leaves change hues and trees shed their foliage. This transformation is a stark reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the inevitability of change. Harvest Time: In many cultures, fall is associated with the harvest season. It's a time of abundance and gratitude as people reap the fruits of their labor. Cozy Comfort: The cooler temperatures and shorter days of fall invite us to seek warmth and comfort indoors. This can be a time for cozy evenings by the fireplace, reading, or spending quality time with loved ones. A Time for Reflection and Renewal: Letting Go: Just as nature sheds its leaves, fall can be a time for letting go of what no longer serves us. This can include old habits, negative thoughts, or relationships that are no longer fulfilling. Renewal and Rebirth: The transition from summer to winter can be seen as a metaphor for the cycle of life and death. Just as nature prepares for dormancy in winter, we can use fall as a time for introspection and renewal, setting the stage for a fresh start in the new year. #alawandos #change #transformation #renewal #rebirth #freshstart #transition #gratitude #abundance #betteryou
