It's a really good question and I can understand the schools of thought. It's kind of like if I was to simplify it like you're either born for sales or you're not, could be like a simple way of putting it and. I think like I was never born for sales and, and the the things that people kept saying to me is no, you talk too much. So that's the thing that I always heard in school. You talk too much or you've got crazy ideas or you're a little bit OCD. Like you always have to have a structure. Everything always has to be on time and everything. So I think it's not so much are you born for this or are you made for this. It's what transferable skills have you had through education and through in life that you can bring to sales. So, you know, as a former hiring manager, I did want somebody who, you know, had performance in their background or perhaps, you know, where they've been athletic or they've done something professional such as sports, dancing, comedy, theatre. They had that sort of spark within them. Also looking for people that had an entrepreneurial mindset. So a lot of SDRs I used to interview asking them like, why do you want to join this company? Said, well, one day I'd love to have my own startup or run my own business, so I'd be looking for that sort of stuff. Or I had people that were driven like a machine. They said, I love hitting targets, I love getting on the phone, I love earning commission. I really want to make it to Presidents Club, They all have different, like you said, intrinsic motivators that have them.

A highly refined Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) is more than a vertical or account spec and title/role. It’s deeply understanding their business, problems, daily struggles, jargon, etc., and relating to it as well as how your solution solves problems in their specific world. This is sometimes called business acumen. If your ICP is too broad you’ll not be able to: 1. Understand your customer deeply enough to connect with them. 2. Train your team in any reasonable amount of time. This is one of the challenges Ryan O'Hara and I discuss on his podcast. Redefining outbound. That's a great name for Frida Ottosson's podcast that I was honored to guest on recently to promote, "Learn to Love Frida asked some truly direct questions, including the one below about the pressure leaders and salespeople feel to perform and hit their numbers. The truth is, far too often the salesperson passes this pressure onto the client (thank you SaaS industry at the end of a quarter) and then the client feels that "commission breath" coming from the salesperson. In an instant, that sales rep's relationship with a buyer goes down the drain. Frida Ottosson podcast format and approach to interviewing are fantastic. This is a great, short discussion.
