DOE's new foundation for US energy transition U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has appointed the board of directors for its new agency-related foundation, the Foundation for Energy Security and Innovation (FESI). The FESI is a non-profit entity that will support the DOE in accelerating the commercialization of new and existing energy technologies by engaging with the private sector and philanthropic communities. The board members will set priorities for FESI, establish bylaws and governance structures, and actively fundraise for FESI activities and initiatives. "Less philanthropy, more business" It's a mistake I see many energy proponents make - effective community benefit strategies are not about how much $s an organization decides to voluntarily donate to charity. In #Scotland we launched our first panel session to accelerate disseminating low-carbon knowledge in the European communities that we serve. The panel's theme was “How CCS and Ocean Power Technologies Intertwine Offshore.” Laure Mora, a key member of our organization, highlighted the following before the panel commenced (she is pictured speaking in the orange jacket): 1.) Thanking all volunteers, supporters, attendees, and event sponsors via Industrial Gas Consultants LLC. and CCU International. 2.) How our organization counts with the backing of skilled professionals from companies like Petrobras, aramco, ExxonMobil, Siemens, Honeywell, SLB, and Repsol. 3.) Detailing the diversity of the Founding Board, which includes 6 of the 11 Founding Board Members being women. 4.) How proceeds that we generate continue to go to advance charitable causes. 5.) Our unwavering commitment to #bridging the gap between developed and developing nations. #KnowledgeSharing #Global #Europe

But, to me, that is only the symptom to the problem. The long term environmental and sustainable impact these installation of these turbines can have to our eastern ecosystem, will be devastating because it's forever. And it is now evident that the mapping of the ocean floor did in fact confuse and thus kill ocean life. Much of this affected the local whales that migrate by LBI. Especially near 5th street. Also dolphins and other ocean life was affected. In Spring Lake, NJ a rare Beaked Whale washed ashore. Please at least research what SaveLBI is doing and why it is important. Please see note below from group, friend and President, below: Dear supporters, The crowds may be dwindling, but our work effort to protect the Island and the ocean is not. Now that the Atlantic Shores project off Long Beach Island (LBI) has been federally approved we are intensely engaged in lawsuit preparation and plan to file a series of complaints within the next two months. We have also been trying to reach persons and businesses in other parts of the State who may not realize that even if they are not directly affected by the shore impact of this project, they will be affected in their pocketbooks, particularly in their electric bills. Regarding those bills, in the past year Statewide average residential electricity rates increased by about 15 percent. This is just the beginning. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has guaranteed higher prices for two new offshore wind projects and is now considering a more highly subsidized price for the Atlantic Shores project. Together this will increase residential bills by another 23 percent, commercial bills by 27 percent and industrial bills by 30 percent. For the full offshore wind program, we expect these increases to almost double.   In a competitive world, this is economic suicide and must be moderated. Given all the other problems with the Atlantic Shores project as described in the attached letter sent to all our State and federal representatives, the obvious smart thing for the BPU to do is to not approve the Atlantic Shores project. We urge you to send that message to the BPU, and to our elected representatives more inland and north of LBI.   We continue to raise funds to support our legal effort regarding this project though our website, www.savelbi.org. Our latest #SocialInnovation design report is live! Why did we design and run a #GreenEnergy innovation competition? ◻ In sub-Saharan Africa at least 600 million people, or about 50 percent of the region’s population, lack regular access to electricity. ◻ Two-thirds of sub-Saharan countries currently experience regular outages, forcing businesses and households to rely on backup generators that run on diesel or gasoline at costs that are four times the price of the power grid. ◻ African countries are responsible for less than 3% of global energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and have the lowest emissions per capita of any region, yet Africa is the continent most vulnerable to negative effects of global climate change ◻ While traditional energy sources must be part of the mix as African economies continue to emerge, investment in green energy sources will be critical for meeting infrastructure and job market needs as Africa’s population grows. ◻ Redirecting investments from fossil fuels to green energy sources and increasing investment in off-grid solutions will be necessary to create scaled access to electricity in rural and urban communities alike.
