🍃 Land Life will be at #COP16 for Biodiversity in Cali, Colombia, from October 22 to October 30th, 2024! Since 2014, we’ve been driven by a passion for nature restoration through innovative technologies. Our toolkit now includes remote sensing, environmental DNA, and bioacoustics—cutting-edge techniques that help us track restoration projects in real-time and at scale. Combining these diverse approaches gives us a comprehensive picture of landscape recovery. We’re already implementing biodiversity baselining in Spain, Indonesia, and Australia and are eager to share what we’ve learned. COP16 is the perfect opportunity for us to contribute our expertise, exchange ideas, and collaborate with global leaders in biodiversity. These days delegates of various nations are in Cali to exchange and formulate how we can tackle the various aspects that need to be attended to in order to conserve and restore biodiversity. A big focus is the need for new technology and analyses development in order to harness biodiversity loss. As #COP16 at Cali Colombia draws to a close,the urgency to combat biodiversity loss is at an all-time high. One critical message from these discussions is the necessity of integrating circular economy principles into biodiversity conservation strategies. 🌿With global biodiversity facing unprecedented decline, leaders convening for #COP16Colombia to accelerate action for the Global Biodiversity Framework stressed on how shifting from linear production and consumption models to circular approaches can significantly enhance ecosystem resilience and sustainability. At Circular Innovation Lab ApS, we are #TogetherForNature 💚 and believe that aligning economic practices with ecological health is essential for a thriving planet. While the #COP16 in Cali, Colombia, housed important discussions on the global state of biodiversity, significant commitment and funding are yet to be achieved for its conservation... In this paper, which I co-authored last year, we explore how a circular economy can regenerate biodiversity in an economically attractive way while improving societal well-being and resilience.

As #COP16 begins today, we’re revisiting our article on life-centred design. 🌱 The 16th UN Biodiversity Conference in Cali, Colombia, will gather global leaders to tackle the urgent task of halting biodiversity loss - aiming to protect 30% of our planet’s land and oceans and restore degraded ecosystems by 2030. Engineers are in a prime position to develop solutions that support biodiversity. While history has shown us that nature can inspire innovation, life-centred design goes beyond this - it places nature alongside human needs. Inspiring a sustainable tomorrow begins with the actions we take today! At the recently concluded side event #5920 of COP16 Colombia - 2024 United Nations Biodiversity Conference on ‘Ecosystem Restoration and Species Conservation’, hosted by CII-IBBI, Tata Power reaffirmed its commitment to biodiversity conservation and nature-related risk management. Dr. Praveer Sinha, Chairman - IBBI, CEO & MD, Tata Power, set a powerful tone by highlighting how businesses must integrate nature-related risk management into their strategies to drive meaningful impact. Subsequently, through an impactful panel, Himal Tewari, CHRO, Chief - Sustainability & CSR - Tata Power, emphasized our efforts towards contributing to ecosystem restoration and species conservation through our businesses. In alignment with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework's mission to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030, this conversation tackled essential topics: from addressing biodiversity loss to unlocking cross-sector collaboration opportunities. The world needs to take action to protect biodiversity. Every species lost makes our world poorer.  How can we sustain biodiversity in healthy ecosystems? What steps can we take to restore nature disrupted by human activity? These are some of the questions to be answered during the UN Biodiversity #COP16 in Colombia. My colleagues Verena Schrameyer, PhD and Lars O Mortensen, Ph.D. are part of Denmark’s delegation at COP16, collaborating with experts across the world, and bringing DHI research and expertise to action for nature. Verena and Lars have been closely involved in our development of science-based methodologies.
