My Generative AI lectures have officially kicked off! So far, we've been exploring the fascinating world of Generative AI and its core concepts, including the Transformer architecture and the powerful Hugging Face library. A big thanks to Professor Dr Varsha Jadhav and Prof(Dr.) Seema Purohit for providing a solid foundation in these areas. We've even gotten hands-on with practical tasks like text generation, image generation, contextual Q&A, and text summarization. It's been incredible to see the capabilities of Generative AI firsthand. Learning about inference APIs and how to leverage Hugging Face pipelines for basic tasks has been particularly insightful. This knowledge will definitely come in handy for future projects! Looking forward to continuing this exciting journey and putting these learnings into action. Are We Overlooking AI’s Limits in Our Excitement for Generative Models? Back in 1956, the Dartmouth Conference ignited hopes that we could replicate human intelligence through AI. But early pioneers soon realized the challenge was far more complex. Today, Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) bring fresh excitement, yet they’re not a universal solution. While LLMs excel in language and pattern recognition, they fall short in areas like causal inference, optimization, and econometrics—fields that require structured data, rigorous methodologies, and deep expertise. Just as the Dartmouth Conference overestimated AI’s immediate potential, are we now doing the same with generative models? As we expand Gen AI’s applications, let’s ground our expectations in what AI can realistically deliver.
