Congrats on a successful mission to CHAPEA crew! 🚀 After 378 days simulating life on Mars and assessing health and performance, the CHAPEA crew has “returned” to Earth. We’re one step closer to Mars exploration and beyond. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐄𝐀 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐀 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬? Both analog missions tackle numerous scientific studies, including the psychological and behavioral challenges of long-duration deep space travel. CHAPEA is a year-long adventure focused on how habitat design impacts astronaut health and performance in a state-of-the-art 1700 sqft (160 m²) Mars habitat. My shorter HERA mission was intense, studying the effects of isolation, confinement, lack of privacy, and acute sleep deprivation in a very small spacecraft. Together, these missions are paving the way for NASA’s journey to Mars! NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Johnson Space Center #NASA #HERA #CHAPEA #Mars #Astronaut #Space #Earth
