But Dylan, not ALL tech brokers/resellers/VARs are bad are they? No, but tread carefully, here are some green flags: ✅ - They're true free agents, they sell competing products (e.g. Dell & HP) ✅ - The vendors they sell view *you* as the end customer, not the reseller ✅ - You can change brokers/resellers/VARs without downtime or redeploying ✅ - You have as much or greater control of the product as your broker or reseller does Looking for these green flags is a great way to prevent becoming a hostage to your business's technology. It's your business, you should be able to assert control whenever required.

Real world events prove why you should have a trusted vendor list for your business. In 2018, Bloomberg published a report about Chinese spies adding an additional chip to motherboards. The companies involved of course denied this but it still raised questions like can this actually happen and not be detected? In the past 48 hours we have learned that pagers and handheld communication devices have been exploding. The suspect is a nation targeting a group of individuals. How did this happen? It was reported that the group started using a new vendor for their devices. It is a great idea to implement Zero Trust and other controls to prevent access to your network, data, and most importantly your IP. If you bring in a device from someone you don't know, how do you know you haven't opened the door to a someone who wants to do you harm? Every business should have an approved vendor list.

Came across a challenging supplier situation in an industry where I work. Two case connected to the same company. Both triggered a well structured task force to minimize the risks and optimize the consequences. First time it was an automotive as a chip supplier with a monopoly position. Second was in IT and it was an enterprise software license domain. Here the vendor was also in a very strong position. Today I have seen a report from a top50 most valuable company and in the technology field it was on the 8th position, with $743B market capitalization. It is Broadcom and very impressive how its growing over the years, involving and acquiring unique technologies. I love technologies, and its remarkable to see how Broadcom navigate it business strategy around it. In the field of MSP (Managed Service Provider), partners and suppliers play a pivotal role on a business delivery, and their reactions are even more dynamic then any other industry.

Vendor price increases are inevitable, no matter how the market’s performing. My advice? Stay flexible. The less locked in you are to a specific software, the more leverage you have. All it takes is a simple, polite response: “Hey, at this price, we’ll need to explore other options.” Very often, when a vendor hears this, they’ll let you keep the original price. So don’t hesitate to stand your ground. And if you need help negotiating the best tech prices, AMD Technology, Inc. is here to support you.
