If you’re working with a recruiter, and they haven’t physically been to your company… It’s a huge missed opportunity. How can you possibly understand the culture, the people, and who the company really is if you have never stepped foot in their office/facility? You can’t. And you don’t get that kind of experience and knowledge from a job description or a Zoom call. One of my favorite things to do is to go to on-site and meet with our clients and their teams BEFORE we start working on a position. We get to ask questions to people directly. We understand their mission and why they do what they do. We feel like an extension of their team, not just some outside recruiter. My recent post about looking for an executive recruiter here at Align was interesting. 1) Thank you to everyone who reached out. I look at every application personally and really appreciate the interest in joining the team. If you haven’t heard from us, you will. I promise. 2) I’m all for cold outreach as a strategy, but I’ve been bombarded with an incredible amount of very odd/poor emails and LinkedIn messages pitching recruiting services to us. I remember this from my operations days, but this was a stark reminder. My intention is not to shame people who are building businesses and drive revenue. I'm trying to do the same. But please, make the touchpoints make sense. If I don’t respond, following up and saying “..looks like you’re too busy for us. Shame!” isn’t going to work. I’d be very surprised if it ever does. Also be careful pitching recruiting services to a recruiting firm :-) Anyway - hiring managers: I see you. The industry really has a problem with some very bad cold outreach strategies. We can and should do much better.

I’ve never met a recruiter / hiring manager that has read a #portfolio cover to cover At best you probably get 60 seconds of their time A good portfolio will: - give enough information - show that you tick the right boxes - pique interest - leave them wanting to know more A portfolio doesn’t need to tell your life journey It just needs to get you to the next step of the process (my two cents anyway) #Design #Hiring #Talent
