Industry consolidation is needed to create providers with significant scale to challenge incumbents and established brands, says Neos Networks CEO Lee Myall, who has commended the recent Netomnia and Brsk merger. He said: “The deal between our two customers Netomnia and Brsk will come with a new wholesale company that will aggregate the two networks. This is vital, as consolidation isn't just about acquiring disparate networks and running them independently." How many of these M&A's have a #CyberRisk assessment? How many of those assessment will conduct a review of #PrivilegedAccessManagement? Products such as DNA by CyberArk (https://lnkd.in/eX658svn) and Silverfort (https://lnkd.in/gsyQJhBt) have different approaches that can and should be part of the M&S strategy. As #AltNets get bought up, then the purchaser will rise through the tiers in terms of their #TelecomsSecurityAct journey and the risks from existing undisclosed weaknesses become a higher impact. If you think you need guidance with this, then please do reach out as we have both cyber and technical consultants who have first hand experience addressing these risks. Having worked in #AltNets which have been part of an M&A I can attest that a #CyberRisk assessment is a crucial step. The amount of mergers within the industry are a real challenge, and often the assessments are just being conducted by #CyberSecurity consultants who don't have the ability or the tooling to provide a true view of the risk. Much better to work with people who know the challenge. #BeyondCyber #GovernanceMatters

A huge milestone achieved today, as the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) issues its final report and gives us approval to merge with Three UK. As part of the merger, we’ve pledged to invest £11bn into network infrastructure – something greatly needed by everyone across the UK. For instance, businesses large and small all depend on high quality connectivity, and advanced 5G is crucial for their growth. It also contributes to UK PLC and the success of public services and key sectors like transport and energy. Now we look forward to building a best-in-class network that can help unlock huge opportunity for the UK’s businesses, driving economic growth and innovation in the process. #TheNationsNetwork #VodafoneThree #CMA https://lnkd.in/eidqQaXt

SHAKING UP UK BROADBAND: NETOMNIA AND BRSK’S GAME-CHANGING DEAL Big news in the UK broadband world: Netomnia and Brsk are joining forces in what's being called the biggest merger yet among alternative network providers. This move is part of the industry's bid to give BT and Virgin Media O2 a run for their money in the full-fibre rollout across the country. The companies struck the deal last week, creating one of the largest "altnets" out there. Investors have been pouring billions into these altnets, hoping to challenge the big players. With the focus shifting from just laying down fibre to actually signing up customers, this kind of consolidation was pretty much expected. Everyone’s looking to get a return on their investment in the digital upgrade. We've seen other big moves recently too. For example, CityFibre announced it was buying Lit Fibre back in March, and Virgin Media O2 agreed to take over Upp in September. In this deal, Brsk will come under Netomnia’s parent company, Substantial Group, but it’ll still run independently with Brsk's CEO, Giorgio Iovino, staying in charge. They’re also creating a new wholesale company to combine their networks and potentially bring other altnets on board. Jeremy Chelot, CEO of Substantial, Netomnia, and their sister company YouFibre, said this merger is a major step towards becoming the UK’s third-largest full-fibre network, aiming to compete with Openreach and Virgin Media O2. Chelot mentioned that the market has been pretty fragmented with many small players, leading to uncertainty. This deal aims to create a more stable competitive environment, and they’re open to further consolidations. Currently, their full-fibre services reach 1.5 million premises with 140,000 customers already connected. They’re planning to use up to £900 million in debt to expand to 3 million premises and around 500,000 customers by the end of 2025. Iovino added that merging will help them break even on earnings a lot sooner and make the group an attractive consolidator in the market. The merger is set to be finalised soon, pending regulatory approval. No job cuts are expected. By the end of 2023, altnets collectively reached 12.9 million premises and had 2 million customers. #broadband #consolidation #netomnia #brsk #altnets

Excellent analysis that speaks to the need for regulators to shift their focus away from price and number of networks and instead look towards the value delivered to customers and economies from having robust and well invested networks capable of carrying and nurturing new services and products.
The proposed Vodafone-Three UK merger strongly merits approval. In this brief paper submitted to the CMA, and now published on the CMA website, I set out the reasons why. To summarise: economic growth requires innovation and productivity gains, and in a telecoms context this boils down to lower prices per GB. In turn, lower prices per GB are driven by network investment – and the merger provides a way to improve the viability of this network investment, paid for out of operating efficiency gains. It should therefore be embraced.

10 of the biggest telecoms M&A deals in 2024 Great round up of the year's biggest deals so far! Zayo US decision to separate its European operations is particularly intriguing. It could signal a growing trend where companies find regional management more effective than a global approach. Lumen's and GTT's recent divestiture of international infrastructure is a clear sign companies are finding it more difficult to manage across multiple regions. It'll be fascinating to see how this strategy plays out for Zayo in Europe. #m&a #mergersandacquisitions #telecoms #networks https://lnkd.in/eJYRWFsM
