One thing I’ve come to realize as a CCTV technician is that maintenance matters a lot. Just a thin layer of dust on a camera lens or a slight shift in position can impact the quality of what’s captured. It’s like having a window that gradually fogs upTechInsight. You might not notice right away, but eventually, it becomes harder to see clearly. Why Regular Maintenance Counts: > Clarity Over Time: Dust and grime can reduce sharpness, making details harder to catch. > Dependability: Routine checks ensure all cameras are working smoothly, without interruptions. > Preventive Power: Simple, regular inspections stop minor issues from turning into costly fixes. Just like with any other tech, the key is in the upkeep. A quick maintenance session now and then keeps things running smoothly and gives you peace of mind knowing your system will deliver when it counts. Do you keep up with maintenance on your system? A little care goes a long way. Michael Njoroge CCTV Technician & Security Specialist. #CCTVMaintenance #SecurityClarity #PreventiveCare #RoutineCheck #TechInsights

As a technician, one thing I always emphasize is the importance of preventive maintenance for CCTV systems. A well-installed camera system is the first step, but ensuring it remains functional and effective over time requires regular upkeep. Here’s why it matters: 1. Prolongs the Lifespan Regular checks and cleaning help extend the life of your cameras and system components, saving you money in the long run. 2. Improves Performance Dust, debris, or changing weather conditions can affect image clarity. Routine maintenance ensures that your cameras always capture sharp footage. 3. Prevents System Failures Spotting issues early, such as loose cables or damaged components, ensures your system doesn’t fail when you need it most. 4. Ensures Compliance Businesses need to maintain security standards. Regular servicing ensures that your system is up to date and compliant with industry standards. 5. Maximizes Security A small issue like a misaligned camera can create a blind spot. Regular inspections ensure your property remains fully protected. Don’t wait for something to go wrong. Schedule regular CCTV maintenance to keep your system operating at its best. 'Ill get a cheap DIY camera system and get my family member to install it'...... I think every security technician in the industry has seen this time and time again. Cheaper doesn't equal better. You get what you pay for. This client of ours had this 'DIY' system installed by a guy who claimed to install security cameras. The camera locations made no sense, the camera quality wasn't great, and the system was dying within a year. Not to mention the install was ... Interesting. It's so important to have a qualified security technician with a security licence install your cctv cameras. You will get quality cameras with a minimum 3 year warranty. You will have a professional long lasting installation. And you will have a bloody good security system that will give you peace of mind. Now we have a happy client with a quality install that will last her years 🙌🏼 #diy #diycameras #eyesonyousecurity #eyesonyouwheatbelt #eyesonyou #eyesonyouperth #businesssecurityperth #securityinstaller #uniview #securityinstaller #westernaustralia #securitylicence #qualifiedtechnician #shonkyjob #wasecurity #securityservices #SecuritySolutions

A Day in the Life of a Fire Alarm Technician The shrill ring of the fire alarm jolted me awake at 5 a.m. – not a building evacuation, but my personal wake-up call. A quick shower, a grab-and-go breakfast, and I was in my truck, coffee in hand, navigating the pre-dawn streets. First stop: a service call for a battery trouble. "How did these pass inspection two months ago?" I muttered, swapping out the depleted batteries. No power outages, charging circuit fine... a mystery for another day. Service ticket signed, and I was back on the road. Downtown, I met the inspection team, dB meter in hand. The fire alarm sound test was a symphony of horns and strobes. A few locked offices meant a return visit, but overall, things looked good. Next: a clean agent system inspection at a financial firm. This would take the rest of the day. Meticulous checks, ensuring everything was in order to protect this high-stakes environment. Around 3 p.m., with the inspection complete, I was finally heading home. But just as I envisioned a relaxing evening, the shop called. A school's fire alarm wouldn't silence. Dinner out would have to wait. At the school, the culprit was a latched waterflow switch. A quick adjustment, a test, and the system was back to normal. Finally, I could head home, another day done. Tomorrow would bring new alarms, new challenges. But for now, it was time to rest, ready to answer the call again when it came. Because in the world of fire alarm technicians, every day is a little bit different, and every alarm is a chance to make a difference. #firealarm #fireprotection #technician

A persistent beeping sound from a device can be highly disruptive and requires immediate attention. In this instance, Ivor's planned schedule was interrupted as he had to be diverted from his jobs to assist the onsite staff in resolving a DOTL alarm. A faulty lock was actually the cause of the DOTL alarm. DOTL - A door has been left open for too long and is in alarm #technician #securitycompany #alarms #customersatisfaction #customerexperience

We just took over a new account. I'll be the first to admit, I make mistakes and I'm by no means perfect.... As CFAA fire alarm technicians, we were mandated to take the report writing CE courses a couple of years ago. Yet, somehow, a kitchen suppression company without any employed fire alarm technicians, is able to submit annual inspection reports to their customers?? Something is terribly wrong with that. During the annual inspection if found some errors; -25 devices that were not listed on last years report (previous total count 95) -2 zones not listed or tested -17 devices listed as tested, which most likely were not -devices listed as tested in rooms without any devices The FACP was changed a couple of years ago and the margins were border line robbery, so you would think the audible devices would have been changed in order to be compatible with the new system. Five months after the panel swap, another annual inspection was done. I'm not sure why you see so many Fire Alarm systems installed over the old tub. The old tub is now an inaccessible pull box. If they would have taken the time to do it right, the mess of marrettes wouldn't be there. Trunkslamming "pros" 😉

Smooth CCTV installation starts with proper planning. Here’s a technician’s checklist for getting it right: > Site Survey: Inspect the property to understand layout, lighting, and potential blind spots. > Choose Camera Types: Match cameras (dome, bullet, PTZ) to the area and coverage needs. > Power Supply & Connectivity: Confirm power availability and plan cable routes, or decide if wireless is the way to go. > Positioning: Plan optimal angles for each camera to avoid obstacles and cover key areas. > Test Before Finalizing: Check camera feeds before fully securing mounts—adjust if needed. With a prep checklist in hand, technicians can ensure every system is positioned for peak performance and reliability. What’s on your checklist before a big install? Let’s share tips! Installing CCTV systems might seem straightforward, but there are common mistakes that can impact their effectiveness. Here are the top three to avoid: 1. Poor Placement: Installing cameras too high or too low can lead to missed footage or unusable angles. 2. Not Considering Lighting: Cameras can’t capture clear footage in poorly lit areas. Ensure proper lighting is available, or consider infrared cameras for low-light conditions. 3. Ignoring Blind Spots: Make sure all key entry and exit points are covered and overlap to eliminate blind spots. Getting the installation right ensures your system is effective in every scenario. Before installation, map out your space and plan camera placement carefully to cover all important areas. Have you checked your camera angles lately? What adjustments could improve your system’s coverage? Michael Njoroge CCTV Technician & Security Specialist. #CCTVSetup #TechTips #SecuritySurveillance
