As a "normal" high school student who was fortunate enough to be accepted into the Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) program, I've learned a thing or two about what it takes to secure a spot in a top-level summer program. Here's some valuable insight I've gained along the way 👇 1️⃣ Start Early: Research and identify the programs that align with your interests and goals. Many prestigious programs have early application deadlines, so don't procrastinate! 2️⃣ Showcase Your Passion: Whether it's STEM, humanities, or the arts, demonstrate your genuine enthusiasm for your chosen field in your application essays and interviews. 3️⃣ Stand Out Academically: Strive for excellence in your coursework and maintain a strong GPA. Academic achievements often play a significant role in the selection process. 4️⃣ Pursue Extracurriculars: Engage in activities that demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and initiative. Volunteering, clubs, sports, or independent projects can all bolster your application. 5️⃣ Seek Mentorship: Connect with teachers, counselors, or professionals in your field of interest who can provide guidance and support throughout the application process. 6️⃣ Craft Compelling Essays: Use your personal statements to showcase your unique experiences, perspectives, and aspirations. Make sure to tailor each essay to the specific program you're applying to. 7️⃣ Prepare for Interviews: Practice articulating your interests, experiences, and goals. Be authentic, confident, and enthusiastic during your interviews. 8️⃣ Demonstrate Growth: Reflect on challenges you've faced and how you've overcome them. Admissions committees appreciate resilience and self-awareness. 9️⃣ Submit a Polished Application: Double-check for any errors or inconsistencies in your application materials. Attention to detail reflects your commitment to excellence. 🔟 Be Persistent: If you're not accepted into your top choice program, don't be discouraged. Use the experience as an opportunity to learn and grow, and consider applying again in the future. Remember, the journey to securing a spot in a top-level summer program is as rewarding as the destination itself. Stay focused, determined, and passionate about your goals! #SummerPrograms #Education #FutureLeaders

I’ve got access to all the campus events, but sometimes I choose to study. I don’t attend every party or gathering. I spend more time in the library than in the student union. My social media feed is more about projects than parties. Some might say I’m not enjoying the “real” college experience. Others have told me I’m too focused on academics. Some even think I’ll look back and wish I’d done more “fun” things. But here’s the truth: College means something different to everyone. For me, college is: → Pulling an all-nighter to ace that tough exam. → Joining a study group where we push each other to do our best. → Networking with professors who inspire me and open new doors. → Working on projects that actually excite me and build my future. → Taking time to reflect on what I truly want out of life. So, don’t let others define your college experience for you. Make the most of it in a way that feels right to you. 🎓 What did college mean to you? Let’s share our stories!

Bridging Academia and Industry for Accreditation Success! In today's fast-evolving educational landscape, universities must prepare faculty with hands-on business experience while maintaining their academic roles. Implementing industry partnerships, structured internship programs, and consulting opportunities can significantly enhance faculty expertise. For instance, MIT's industry collaboration programs and UC Berkeley's Faculty Entrepreneurial Fellows program offer valuable industry insights while contributing to academic research. Industry-sponsored research projects, professional development programs, and industry-focused sabbaticals further enrich practical knowledge. Stanford's Industry Affiliate Program and USC's encouragement of industry-linked sabbaticals are excellent examples. For faculty without business experience, targeted training and mentorship programs can provide the necessary exposure to meet accreditation standards. These initiatives enhance faculty qualifications and ensure a richer educational experience for students, integrating practical insights into the curriculum. Embracing these strategies can help universities foster a more dynamic and industry-ready academic environment.

Identifying Transfer Institutions: A Thoughtful Approach At the Kaplan Leadership Program, scholars work closely with the Transfer Admissions Advisor and the Director of Academic Advising to identify four-year institutions that align with their academic and career goals. The process begins with a list of 15 to 25 potential transfer institutions, which scholars gradually narrow down to 8-10 institutions for their applications. This process is guided by research, one-on-one coaching sessions, and interactive workshops. By the end, each scholar has a deeper understanding of why each institution is on their list—every school is chosen with clear, intentional reasons that align with the scholar’s goals and aspirations. Tips to Help You Narrow Down Your Own List: 📚 1. Academic Programs: Does the institution offer the major or specialization you’re interested in? How does the curriculum support your long-term career goals? 🎓 🏫 2. Campus Environment: What is the campus culture like? Do you see yourself thriving there socially and academically? 🤝🎉 🌍 3. Location and Campus Life: Is the location suitable for your lifestyle? Consider proximity to home, climate, and access to internships or job opportunities. 🌦️🏙️ 💰 4. Financial Aid and Scholarships: Does the institution offer financial aid or scholarships that make it financially feasible for you? 🎓💸 🔄 5. Transfer Support Services: Does the school provide transfer-specific resources such as academic advising, housing options, or career services? 🏠💼 By asking these questions and doing thorough research, you can make informed choices about where to apply, ensuring each institution is the right fit for your future success! It’s not just about picking a school; it’s about finding the best fit for your academic, personal, and professional growth. #UpwardTransferSuccess #HigherEducation #CollegeTransfer #KaplanLeadershipProgram #DreamBig #CollegeAdmissions #UpwardTransfer

We have to do better
The True ‘Magic’ Of College Happens For Just 2 Out Of 100 Students... For every 100 students who matriculate into a bachelor’s degree program in the U.S., only 60 end up graduating. Of the 60 who graduate, only 3% experience the most important elements of college according to the largest representative study of graduates in U.S. history (Gallup-Purdue Index). This means that a mere 2 out of 100 students ultimately experience the true magic of college. Insights from the study are many but none more important than what researchers defined as the “big six” – the six key experiences that double a graduates’ odds of being engaged in their work and thriving in their overall wellbeing throughout their lifetime. Let’s call these six ingredients the ‘magic’ of college. They fall into two categories of ‘relationship-rich’ and ‘work-integrated’ experiences defined by graduates strongly agreeing to the following statements: Relationship-Rich “I had at least one professor who made me excited about learning” “My professors cared about me as a person” “I had a mentor who encouraged me to pursue my goals and dreams” Work-Integrated “I worked on a project that took a semester or more to complete” “I had an internship or job that allowed me to apply what I was learning in the classroom” “I was extremely active in extracurricular activities and organizations” If you’re a college graduate who can strongly agree to all six of these statements, congratulations! You’re a two-percenter. And although roughly half of bachelor’s degree recipients can strongly agree to at least two of the six, a whopping 25% never hit the mark on any of them while another 23% hit the mark on just one. What it requires to scale this magic to more students is serious intentionality on the part of colleges and universities by defining these experiences as core to the academic mission of the institution. This is what will fundamentally differentiate a successful college from a failing one and also what will differentiate the value proposition of college from a growing list of alternatives. Nothing will help more than scaling the magic of college for more students. And that’s a college arms race we can all get behind.
