Accountability as a heritage building owner is important. Don’t buy them if you don’t intend to adaptive reuse them. I have been following the UK response for several years now and admire that they value their heritage buildings and their role in neighbourhoods to the degree that they respond accordingly as needed. It’s also important to have the right policies and legislation to do so and they obviously do for us to see them actually get rebuilt. It is strong and important policy for those buildings that have heritage values architecturally and other people, institution, landmark, symbolic values. It will be interesting to see how the heritage professionals restore this one to its former glory. Albeit it will have to be interpreted as a restoration to its returning and new patrons as it’s not the original but looks like many a brick there in the crumpled pile to reuse. 🧱 And all who know me know my love of and value of brick historically and architecturally. 😉
