Have you ever taken a cross-country trip with strangers? Dylan Stadel and I have, and it turned out to be more common sense than you'd think. After Dylan competed in the wrestling national championships in Dallas, we missed our flight home to Utah along with one of his teammates. It was frustrating. We could see our plane still at the gate, with the coach, Dylan’s mom and sister, and the rest of the team on board. But the door was shut, and no amount of pleading with the airline staff could change that. Two other passengers, a middle-aged woman and her mother who’d just had knee surgery, were in the same situation. We all felt stuck and powerless. After more than 24 hours of being bumped from one overbooked American Airlines flight to another, we realized driving was our only shot to get home in time for my work conference in Florida. So, we did what any frustrated group would: stood in a long line for a Chick-fil-A Restaurants milkshake, stocked up on snacks, and rented a car with our new travel buddies. Then, we drove straight through the night. Sometimes, you might feel stuck in your career, especially if you’ve been hit by a layoff. It’s natural to feel frustrated, sad, and even like you’ve lost control. But like our unplanned road trip, there’s often another path to your destination. It may not look like what you expected, but alternative solutions exist. Whether it’s a new role, industry, or certification, there’s always a way forward. If you're feeling stuck, let's brainstorm ideas to help get you moving again.

💼 The Highs and Lows of a Sales Career 💼 If you’ve worked in sales, you know it can be a rollercoaster. From missing KPIs to being laid off, we all get familiar with rock bottom—and the lessons that come with it. I’ve been fired for speaking up, reprimanded over errors I did and didn’t make, and bonused and promoted for hard work. I’ve stayed connected with past colleagues and supervisors, knowing that good relationships matter just as much as the setbacks. Years later, I’m grateful for even the roughest patches. Those “earth-shattering” moments taught me resilience, and now they’re just stories of growth. At the end of the day, the attitude we bring, the connections we build, and the work ethic we uphold make the difference. The past may sting, but it is the foundation for where we go next. Have you ever had a setback that became a pivotal lesson? Let’s talk about it. #SalesLife #CareerGrowth #Resilience #Networking #LessonsLearned

One thing I love about sales is that my success does not define me, and my failure does not define me, but my choice to keep going is what gives me validity. The opportunity to recruit has allowed me to help and connect with so many, and it has been extremely humbling because I remember being in the job hunt myself for an extended period of time. I’m so grateful to have a role that has allowed me to use so many different parts of my skill sets and challenge me in so many ways. I can truly say I’ve grown in ways I couldn’t imagine. For all of this to come full circle on my work anniversary just shows there are no mistakes. Everyone’s journey is different, and I’m obsessed with the development of mine. I’m thankful for Rin Palmer for saying yes to bringing me on. - Kiernan for being my biggest advocate and cheerleader. - Cade for making the one call responsible for me being here. - Endless mentors along the way like Jake, George, and Tricia B.. - My director Sean, who had check-ins with me to ensure we zoom out on any struggles and help me understand things in the grand scheme of our division. So many others have played a part in getting me here, and I can’t wait to deliver on those investments and help so many others in return. Chef Wes is officially a Hiring Partner! “Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” #GritGotMeHere

🍬 Would You Eat the Marshmallow or Wait for Two? The Secret to Long-Term Career Success 🍬 Imagine this: A marshmallow in front of you. Do you eat it now, or wait and double your reward? 🍫 In the 1970s, kids faced this dilemma in a famous psychology experiment. Some couldn’t resist the instant gratification and ate the marshmallow right away. Others waited, reaping the bigger reward later. In the real world, it’s the same choice. Do you take the quick win, or hold out for greater rewards down the road? 💼 For example: • You get a tempting job offer with a pay raise but limited growth OR • You stick it out, learning new skills in your current role for the career leap you really want. The Marshmallow Effect teaches us that patience can lead to bigger, more lasting success. 🏆 So, when the opportunity knocks—will you eat the marshmallow, or wait for something bigger? 🤔 #careerdecision #marshmalloweffect #longtermsucess #professionalgrowth #delayedgratification

A year ago, I took on a new challenge and bet on myself in a career pivot I wasn’t 100% confident in. I left my role as a BDR for a top technology company and dove headfirst into the world of flexible packaging with Garlock Flexibles. This past year has been both rewarding and challenging, and I’ve learned so much along the way. Here are a few reflections from my first year: 🤝 Support from Leadership: It’s been incredibly empowering to have a leadership team that believes in my vision. Since day one, the ideas I’ve had for shaping our business development team have received unwavering support, from my direct manager all the way up to our CEO. ⚖ Work-Life Balance: Being part of a company that values my well-being as much as my contributions has been transformative. I’m not just an employee working towards goals; I’m a person whose overall well-being is prioritized, and this has allowed me to thrive both personally and professionally. 💭 Collaborative Problem-Solving: My passion for solving problems has found a perfect outlet here. Whether it’s refining strategies or exploring new markets, I've found an environment where my skills are both valued and utilized to their fullest. ⛰ Learning from Challenges: In this role, challenges are viewed as opportunities for growth rather than setbacks. This mindset has given me the confidence to take on new responsibilities, knowing that each experience, whether successful or not, contributes to my development as a professional. Reflecting on this past year, I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of a company that aligns with my values and supports my growth. Thank you Marco Ferrin and Greg Powell for believing in me and your continued support. And for those contemplating a career change... sometimes the best opportunities arise when you prioritize your growth and well-being. You never know where the journey might lead. 😉 #WorkAnniversary #GarlockFlexibles #CareerChange #Thankful

The wrong team fit can tarnish a player's career expectations... Just like the wrong company / culture fit can hinder your career success. These three quarterbacks serve as a pleasant reminder that not every team (ie. company / job opportunity) is a good fit for your career. Sam, Derek, and Baker are thriving so far this season. But, it wasn't always like that... In fact, their NFL careers were pretty subpar up until joining their new teams. Now, they find themselves in a much better locker room, system, and coaching staff fit thats allowing them to play their best football. Each of them were with multiple teams prior to now. (*similar to most of us having multiple past employers) I'm sure the previous teams, coaches, and players were excellent But, certain players & playing styles perform better with certain players and coaches at the helm. All of this to say; If you haven't found the right "team" that allows you to win at the level you know you can, then... Keep exploring new options while continuously working on your craft in the meantime. Note: Job hopping isn't encouraged. But, what is encouraged is being open to conversations with companies and opportunities that might be that right fit for you. Happy Hunting! #careers #sales #finance #industrial
