According to Jordan Peterson, we all bear the world on our shoulders and its destiny is connected to our own individual determination. But how how can that be true, you may ask. How can I make a difference to the world’s destiny? Well here's one way that Peterson suggests we think about it. How much better would the people around you be if you were better? Some, obviously. And what's the ultimate extent of that, if you were everything you could be? Because that's what you're called upon to be. Everything you can be. Why? Not least because, well, try getting through the world without doing it. But how is that connected to the destiny of the world? Well think about if you start doing things right for yourself. If you start ordering things. Next thing you know, the people in your family, who literally live in your home, are starting to order things properly because you've ordered something properly. They see things getting a little bit better. We start getting a little more order rather than chaos. Then next thing you know your community, the neighbors, are like: Boy, you know they've been doing some nice stuff over at their house; the landscaping looks nice; they clean up trash; well maybe we'll start doing that. And when that starts happening, your community might build a garden that you all start going to and learning a little something from each other. And maybe you elect a mayor who's a little bit better than your current mayor. And maybe that is what connects your own self improvement to the destiny of the world. This is how I see the 2024 project that I have been developing over the last few months with my writing partner and a couple of other collaborators — an effort to build a new community garden, albeit of the online variety, and better enable folk to be everything they can be.
