SparkLabs closes $50M fund to back AI startups #SparkLabs, known for backing #AI giants like #OpenAI and Anthropic, is doubling down on AI with a new $50 million AIM AI Fund. This fund will support #startups through its AIM-X accelerator in Saudi Arabia and invest in #AIcompanies globally. The surge in generative AI has fueled a wave of new startups, and SparkLabs aims to tap into this momentum, expanding its focus beyond Silicon Valley. Around 35% of the fund will back AIM-X participants, with the rest allocated to Series A and B investments, primarily in the U.S. SparkLabs plans to invest in 50 to 70 companies, with check sizes ranging from $200,000 to $5 million. While specific limited partners weren't disclosed, they include a government fund of funds. SparkLabs is set to announce its first batch of 14 AI-driven startups at the GAIN Summit in Riyadh on September 10. Singapore has emerged as the top country in #Asia for AI startups, boasting a relative #AI hiring rate of 18.93% from 2022 to 2023, according to an AIPRM report. Globally, #Singapore ranked second, just behind the US, which had a score of 85.97. The city-state's AI #startup score stood at 84.36, with 193 newly funded AI companies from 2013 to 2023, attracting $8.1 billion (US$6.3 billion) in private #investment.
