Another good article from WorkSafe BC. Keeping workers safe is what we do. #NorthAmericTraffic #workersafety #flaggersafety “When planning for roadside worksites, employers are required to use signage or automated flagger assistance devices to alert drivers of the presence of a worksite and reduce health and safety risks to workers as much as possible,” Vizza says. https://lnkd.in/eDWJMaTX

As we continue to put worker abuse in the spotlight after Respect our Workforce Week, today we consider another type of abuse, which puts workers' lives at risk - incursions into work areas. It is alarmingly common for drivers to ignore traffic management signage and drive into the work zone, when operatives are busy doing their job maintaining or improving roads. The road closure may be inconvenient, but it is necessary to protect workers, and when incursions occur, operatives often have just seconds to jump out of harm's way. Bringing a hazard into someone's workplace is abuse - and a vehicle is a serious hazard! We have carried out trials of our #RB50 moveable HVM barrier with FM Conway Ltd. Their team not only told us that the measure made them feel safer, but also that it actually defused a potential abuse incident by forcing a motorist who had intended to drive through the traffic management to re-think that potential confrontation and take the diversion instead. Our Emotional State is at Stake! "Despite the incidence of workplace violence and its harmful effects on our health care system, no federal law protects health care employees from workplace assault or intimidation. By contrast, there are federal laws on the books criminalizing assault and intimidation against airline employees, and Attorney General Merrick Garland recently directed Department of Justice prosecutors to prioritize prosecutions under that statute given the rise in violent behavior on commercial aircraft during the COVID-19 pandemic. Vigorous enforcement of these federal laws creates a safe traveling environment, deters violent behavior, and ensures that offenders are appropriately punished. Our nation’s healthcare workers who have tirelessly helped care for and treat the sick and dying while facing increased violence – especially during the last two years of the pandemic – deserve the same legal protections as airline workers. Congress should enact the Safety from Violence for Healthcare Employees (SAVE) Act, which provides protections similar to those that exist for flight crews, flight attendants and airport workers." 🚨 Attention Health and Safety Managers! 🚨 It’s often the smallest things that lead to the biggest costs. According to a survey by Travelers, the most expensive workers' compensation claims come from the most common workplace accidents. The top five? Overexertion, slips, trips and falls, being struck by an object, motor vehicle accidents, and caught-in/between hazards. Humans aren’t perfect—we can’t expect them to be 100% consistent or compliant. That’s why it’s essential to implement multiple layers of safety measures. 💡 SEEN Safety offers an innovative forklift pedestrian safety system that provides extra protection for pedestrians in high-risk zones, especially behind reversing machines. Minimize the risks, reduce costly accidents, and create a safer workplace. 📞 Talk to SEEN today about how active protection can safeguard your team and reduce the cost of human/MHE interactions. #SafetyFirst #WorkplaceSafety #ForkliftSafety #SEENSafety

There ya have it folks... Well...I feel like a bird brain, because that puts a damper on the notion that all accidents are preventable! Almost all accidents are preventable, as highlighted by the following key points: - Workplace accidents: Studies show that 98% of workplace accidents are preventable. Proper training, identifying causes, and implementing preventative measures are crucial in reducing workplace incidents. - Human error: 70% of accidents attributed to human error could have been prevented through effective management action. Training employees in health and safety protocols can significantly lower accident rates. - Vehicle accidents: Drivers can play a proactive role in accident prevention by engaging in safe practices such as judging distances, anticipating actions, and being mindful of surroundings. Additional measures to prevent accidents include providing assistive equipment, allowing adequate break time for rest, and training workers on proper physical tasks like lifting. Accident prevention is a shared responsibility that requires a collaborative effort from all stakeholders in ensuring a safe and secure work environment. #AccidentPrevention #SafetyFirst #WorkplaceSafety
