While the festive season is in full swing, many parents face the challenge of balancing work with childcare. We’re pleased to have awarded £50,000 to Brightly Jersey, a charity supporting children and young people in the care of the Children’s Service. They are using their grant to cover nursery and holiday club fees for children in need, including those whose parents were previously supported by Brightly, and who are too young to qualify for 30 free hours per week. This support helps parents work towards independence by enabling them to secure employment and earn a stable income. Your charity or project could be next to receive a grant. Check out our grant deadlines for 2025 and start preparing your application 👇 https://lnkd.in/e_bRDyXs #JerseyCI #CommunityFoundation

🫶⚕️PayPal Fundraiser: "Don't Leave Your Kid Home ⚕️🙏 As a dedicated family member and concerned citizen, I am starting this fundraiser to bring attention to a critical issue: children being left home alone due to the demands of their parents' jobs. Recently, I witnessed a heartbreaking situation involving my sister, who is a social worker. While she was out taking her clients to court, she left her 8-year-old child home alone for my father to pick up. When I arrived, I found my beloved nephew hiding behind a couch, crying because he was afraid and alone. This is a scenario no child should ever have to endure. Children are our most precious treasures, and their safety and emotional well-being must be our top priority. Leaving a child home alone, even for a short period, can lead to significant fear, anxiety, and potential harm. It is simply uncalled for and unacceptable in our society. The funds raised through this campaign will be used to: 1. Raise Awareness: We aim to educate parents and caregivers about the dangers and emotional impact of leaving children home alone. 2. Support Services: Provide resources and support to parents who may need assistance finding reliable childcare options. 3. Advocate for Policy Changes: Work towards creating and implementing policies that ensure children are never left alone due to parental work obligations. Your support can make a profound difference in the lives of children who might otherwise find themselves in frightening and unsafe situations. Together, we can create a safer environment for our children and ensure that no child is ever left home alone again. Please consider donating to this cause and sharing this fundraiser with your network. Every contribution helps us get closer to a world where children are always safe and cared for. #NoChildLeftAlone #ChildSafetyFirst #ProtectOurKids #EndChildNeglect #SafeAndSound Thank you for your support and compassion. Let's work together to make a difference in the lives of our children. I’m raising $19,999.99 until 09/03/2024 for Don't leave your kid home alone!. Can you help? https://lnkd.in/eqM38zds

In California and the United States, #FFNcare is the most common nonparental #ChildCare arrangement for young children, including #infants and #toddlers–nearly two out of every five children, ages 3 and under, are entrusted to the care of an FFN provider. 🚼 Yet FFN providers receive low or no compensation for their work. #ChildCareSubsidies are a critical way for FFNs to increase their income, but currently, many face barriers to accessing this system. Early Edge California, Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, San Jose Public Library, and Vision y Compromiso have released a NEW policy brief exploring the barriers to subsidies and provides recommendations on how to better support FFN caregivers in obtaining them. Most (around three quarters) of the children and young people that SHiFT works with were open to Children’s Social Care when they began working with their SHiFT Guide. One of the four key outcomes for children and young people working with a SHiFT Guide is that they are safe and stable, and to achieve this we reach children and young people and stay with them wherever they are and wherever they go. We are not constrained by artificial or statutory barriers such as age limits, service thresholds or Host Organisation borders. This #nationalcareleaversweek We support Become's campaign to #endthecarecliff and the expectation of ‘independence’ asked of young people as they approach 18. "Young care leavers that Become supports have described that time as a “cliff edge” or “like being on death row, counting down the days” until their 18th birthday when their placements are abruptly stopped, and they are expected to become ‘independent’ overnight – often without the support that every young person needs to thrive." Become is the national charity for care-experienced children and young people. Read the report in full here: https://lnkd.in/eTekUKK8

I'm typing this one-handed because today is heated-blanket-and-orange-juice day, also known as platelet donation day. Donating platelets requires a solid chunk of time, so I feel that being able to offer this time every two weeks is a privilege. It isn't only having a few spare hours, but having a flexible enough schedule to have those spare hours during the "typical" workday. The privilege of having a flexible schedule applies to so much more than this one activity. So many jobs have strict schedules, whether during the "business" day or evenings and weekends. This is why one of my intentions when I established JusticeAccess was to offer our services at a wide-enough range of times that we would be available for our patrons whether they had a strict schedule during the day or a strict schedule at night. Our online services (the virtual reference desk) are designed to be efficient for our patrons; there is no need to take time for travel or to find childcare. A flexible work schedule should not be a requirement to receive help accessing legal information. What do you do that you can only do because of a flexible schedule? What would you do if only you had a flexible schedule? Share in the replies!
