Small actions can make enormous changes, its the cumulitive effect. When times are tough economically it’s difficult for people to commit to making regular monthly payments to charities or even to sponsor fundraising events. That’s where micro donating wins the day. Score a Bed is a bed/bedroom rating platform that aims to inform the traveller using hotels in self catering accommodation, whilst at the same time giving valuable feedback to the provider.A very tiny percentage will be added to the bill which will support funding beds for rough sleepers and beds for families in bed poverty through the Score a Bed Foundation. Christchurch Friends - Graeme Dingle Foundation Needs Your Help! I don't normally post like this, but desperate times call for action. We're in a Christmas Ham Jam and could really use your support. The Graeme Dingle Foundation Canterbury has around 200 premium 4.5kg Christmas Ham's (on the bone, absolutely delicious!) left to sell, and time is running out. If we don't sell these, our charity faces a significant financial hit, which takes away from the good work are able to do in our community. Here's how you can help: - Buy one for yourself - $85. Perfect for Christmas dinner, the freezer, or a thoughtful gift. Link to order is below. - Give to those in need - Donate $1,000 and we'll distribute 15 hams to families who could use a little extra holiday cheer. - Smaller Contributions Welcome - Want to chip in a smaller amount to help us donate hams? Your support, big or small, would mean the world to us. Know someone who might be interested - if so put them in touch with me. Let's make this Christmas special for everyone, and support the awesome work done by Graeme Dingle Foundation. Much appreciated, Kylie https://lnkd.in/g8ryerTW

A new government with so many new MPs provides an exciting, fresh opportunity for charities to engage politicians on issues affecting their beneficiaries. Thanks to the brilliant work from Pro Bono Economics here, knowing how best to target these efforts just got a little easier. We might not be in an election period anymore, but it's no free-for-all: charities should curate their efforts carefully and according to Charity Commission guidance on campaigning and political activity. Go forth boldly, and persuade! https://lnkd.in/eHgMnGji
Charity gearing up to influence the new parliament? Struggling to prioritise the 335 new MPs? Pro Bono Economics have just published a free database to help. We've published a list of all 242 MPs who have publicly talked about their experience working in, volunteering for, fundraising for, being a patron or trustee of a charity. It's broken down by sub-sector. So if you want to find MPs who've worked in children's charities, or volunteered in women and girl's charities, or fundraised for hospices, you can. It's by no means a perfect #publicaffairs tool. We don't pretend it is. But we had the data, so we decided to make it freely available to help organisations that can't afford an agency or Dods database, and to reduce duplication. Hopefully it will help kickstart some targeted influencing efforts and surface some MPs who might not have crossed charities' radar just yet. With massive 🙌 to Charlotte Prothero, Beth Kitson, Rebecca Fitzjohn and Mahveen A. for some proper hustle pulling it together. https://lnkd.in/er9ibVuT

Super interesting to see where the hearts or our new MPs sit and what a helpful tool for those who are looking to work with the new government in a efficient way.

What is your turnover? 💰 This may feel like a rude question but for many of my clients, particularly charities, it is a common question to have to answer when applying for funding. It also causes the most confusion as it is so often linked to 'profits' and, well, charities don't make those! Put simply: 💵 "Turnover" is the actual income you have received in the given period (this includes restricted + unrestricted income if you are a charity) 💴 "Profit" is what is left once expenses are taken away from income (and yes, this is a figure that exists in charities, it's just not taken as 'profit' but is used to fund other activities*) This also means that having a high turnover does not necessarily mean you have a high profit (if your expenses exceed your income for example). I've seen perfectly competent charity leaders crumble under these types of questions because they don't 'do finance'. This is where I can help. I can help make sense of technical language (Finance, HR, IT) in the context of your organisation or charity. If this is something that is holding you back, please do get in touch and let's see if I can help put things back into English for you. *A little note to say that there is an added complication on 'profit' when dealing with restricted funds for charities. A post for another day perhaps....

New research from the think tank Pro Bono Economics and Nottingham Trent University reveals an alarming £13bn drop in UK council funding for charities since 2010. This 23% drop over the last decade is more than a financial shortfall; it points to a profound vulnerability in our society. Today, with local councils in the grip of unparalleled monetary challenges, the potential repercussions for charities are awful. It's a crucial reminder of how closely the fates of local governments and charities are linked. Whether you work in or outside the charity sector, please consider what action you could take to help, however small. 👉 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲: Work together when speaking to local representatives. Make the case for sustainable funding models for the work of charities. 👉 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻: Every contribution, no matter the size, helps charities bridge the funding gap. 👉 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿: Offer your time and skills to local charities, enhancing their ability to deliver essential services as efficiently as possible. 👉 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱: Help raise awareness by sharing this information within your network and highlighting the crucial role of charities and the impact of funding cuts. #CharityFunding #LocalGovernmentCuts #TakeTheFirstStep
