Darling Street DA Lodged. BMA has designed a new mixed-use development on Darling Street, Balmain. The proposal for this unique site complements the conservation significance of the immediate Darling Street context. The character of the scheme is contemporary in aesthetic although the proportions and rhythm of the building form are sympathetic of the predominantly Victorian period buildings nearby. A restrained palette and keen rhythm reflects the nature of these period facades and Darling Street context. The recessed upper storey reduces the perceived scale of the project with an activated retail frontage at ground and commercial office space above. This rendering shows the Gatehouse at the entrance of Oakhill’s Estate in Stellenbosch we designed for @Invictus Developments. It reflects a refined balance between modern architecture and functional design. Characterized by clean, angular lines and a cantilevered roof, the structure offers a sense of lightness while providing essential shelter for those passing through. The integration of natural materials such as concrete and timber, combined with open-screen elements, ensures a secure yet visually transparent entry point. The design is understated, aligning with the broader architectural approach of Oakhills Estate, where contemporary living harmonizes with the natural landscape. Timber louvers and expansive glazing invite natural light into the space, creating a welcoming yet purposeful transition into the community. Always a favourite of mine, this apartment building in Bondi is as striking today as it was when it was first built, 10 years back. ABOUT ARIA The sculptural form of the balconies is about creating a dynamic presence on the street. We feel every project should contribute to the environment and streetscape it occupies. Designed with one apartment per floor to maximise privacy, solar access and ventilation to each apartment, the Aria is a good example of a medium density infill development that still provides large family sized apartments. Part 2: A majestic façade To give a royal look, the front façade of the residency is shimmering with austere yellow lights against the flamed red bricks. A lot of thought was put into the visible aspects of the façade, such as the soft edges of the arches, which bring about contemporary architecture. The slender concrete columns, coupled with the thick brick columns, give the entrance a bold and powerful look. Noval Property’s mixed – use project in Ardittou Str. in Mets, exemplifies it perfectly, through the reuse of marble façade panels in this major building renovation. Rather than discarding the existing marble, a material prized for its durability, its timeless beauty and its long-standing history, we carefully dismantled, restored, and repurposed these panels. The original façade was an integral part of the building's identity. By reusing it, we preserved its architectural heritage while breathing new life into the structure.
