A pleasant Sunday morning to you! At our Saga complex in Greenfield, (5 unique radio stations under 1 roof in beautiful Western MA) we're gearing up for holiday music and marketing plans for our advertisers. One unique plan we talk to our sponsors about, are holiday greetings. Now, they're not commercials per se, but they can really hit home. As the holiday season approaches, radio becomes a prime medium to reach audiences with heartfelt greetings. A simple holiday message aired over the radio brings warmth and goodwill to listeners, evoking the spirit of the season. For businesses, it’s a unique opportunity to connect with the community on a personal level. Unlike traditional ads, holiday greetings aren't about promoting products; they're about building relationships, showing appreciation, and fostering a sense of belonging. Radio ad greetings also reach people during their commute, shopping trips, or holiday travel, creating memorable moments where a brand’s name is associated with positivity and cheer. These messages stand out amidst the usual rush of holiday promotions, helping brands connect in an authentic, less commercial way. If I can help, jdeane@whai.com.

This week I celebrate a year of presenting on my local community radio. My Saturday morning show has nestled in nicely mid-morning slot on a Saturday for XtraHot Radio, so what have I learnt from the experience ? 1) Never be afraid to learn. I naively assumed that hosting a radio show would come naturally to me, but I quickly realised the depth of skill required. I gained a newfound respect for radio presenters like Steve Wright in delivering engaging content daily. Despite facing challenges and initially being unaware of my shortcomings, gentle guidance from Radio controller Kevin Scott led me to enroll in a presenting course last summer. Through humility and perseverance, I've made strides in improving my skills. This journey has underscored the importance of continuous learning and the dedication required to excel in any endeavour. 2) How important Local Radio is, it plays a vital role in connecting communities, providing them with a platform to share news, events, and stories relevant to their area. Unlike national broadcasts, local radio stations focus on the specific needs and interests of their listeners, traffic, local events fostering a sense of belonging and unity. Local radio supports local businesses, promoting economic growth by advertising products and services within the community. Furthermore, it gives voice to underrepresented groups and promotes cultural diversity, enriching the fabric of society. In essence, local radio serves as a beacon of connectivity, information, and community spirit, making it an indispensable asset in today's media landscape. It’s a great Marketing Channel. I thought it was a bit of an old fashioned medium but by tailoring advertisements to specific demographics and interests, businesses can maximise their exposure and get real impact. Additionally, local radio advertising is highly cost-effective compared to other forms of media, making it accessible to small businesses with limited marketing budgets and in Hot Radios case it’s a charitable endeavour . Furthermore, radio advertisements can be highly engaging fostering a sense of community involvement and strengthens relationships with customers. Bigger brands should take a look

As we’re in the last week of November we’re probably all looking forward to our festivities. I watched my first Christmas film last night and Buble is playing in the car. But the projects and clients we’re going to work with in January and beyond are going to come from the efforts made now, or even the efforts we’ve already made. Keep marketing Keep posting Keep having conversations In December we’re all in a more social, giving mood. Book those new year meetings as soon as you can and make sure your marketing speaks to your customers emotion. If you’re stuck for inspiration, check out all the Christmas ads this year. They’re all structured around an emotion. #christmas #marketing

the corner: there's news and current affairs our houses were set up in a way that you had full visibility of the neighbour's yards. In some instances, the walls were so thin, you'd even know what was happening in the house next door.(then empathise, join or intervene) this wasn't a complete disadvantage. the "sardine" housing arrangement brought the community together, a school moving together as one(don't let that go over your head). perhaps this is part of the reason why we greet one another all the time, we did not have enough space to avoid our neighbour. though a "heita", "aweh" & "avuxeni" for me signifies respect and acknowledgement. if a neighbour goes on vacation(home) during the holidays, they would rely on the community to keep an eye on their property(safety & security). any new purchase done; from your Technics HiFi, a 3310, an imbuia wood room divider to the Toyota Madunusa or Kentucky Rounder would be part of a discussion.(trends) problems, ideas, solutions, influencers, products, insights, new technology, security or job openings kwaSbindi(Unilever) are some of the discussions at the corner.(education) the corner is our source of information.
