#Range in Architecture: #generalise + #specialise #What_does_an_architect_do? archi-manager More than half of the professional competencies for architecture relate to project and design management covering risk, programming, resourcing, value and budget management, contract administration and procurement. All architects have deep capability in in managing project deliverables and optimising outcomes for our clients. Some of us actually love this part of the profession so much – we do it full time! #Architecture is one of the great generalist #professions. Architects #oscillate between broad knowledge and deep specialisation. It is the Architect’s #range that underscores their capability to weave together competing #priorities and #optimize project outcomes across #sustainability, #cost, spatial #utilisation and #experience, #engineering inputs, #lifecycle, #biodiversity, #materiality, #constructability, #aesthetics and engage with the human condition. There are a myriad of archi-career typologies in the profession. There is no one size fits all….. For some of us #LessIsMore. For some of us #LessIsABore….and for others #More&More&MoreisMore. This insta-series uncovers careers in Architecture explored through expanding range.

#Range in Architecture: #generalise + #specialise #What_does_an_architect_do? #Infrastructure Architect Those who design all of the bits in between that make the city function across many domains including transport, manufacturing, utilities and ports. Their work is complex and technical and when it works well, you will barely be aware of the deft skill that wove so many competing threads to achieve such as seamless outcome. #Architecture is one of the great generalist #professions. Hear me out … what if there was an industry round table that consisted of Architects, Engineers, Contractors, BPMs, and skilled trades (I think I have everyone). Discussion Question: “What can I do to make your job easier, more efficient and more profitable?” Each session focused on the different roles. The requirements at the end of each session: - actionable items to report on - Specifications must be discussed - Drawings must be discussed - Implementation of new tech - Communication channels The goals: - Appreciation for the “other side” - Professional connections - Industry change for the better That would be very interesting. #specifications #architect #architecture #engineering #design #revit #construction #AI #inmyelement #futureofspecifications

I love these! The embodiment of these values should be shared amongst all members of the design team. I know as structural engineers we certainly strive to work with these these ideals at top of mind. I’ll add that being clear about the scope and sticking to it is an important aspect of our work. That goes along with with #5: referring others when the work is outside your scope.
12 ways architects can bring value without drawing anything. These are for architects, but I bet any client would value them 👇🏼 1. Be honest about the cost of delivering a great project 2. Say "I don't know" when you don't know 3. Tell the truth about timelines 4. Protect the budget like it's your own 5. Offer referrals when it's outside your scope 6. Listen more, talk less. (ask the right questions) 7. Don't assume you know the solution to their problem 8. Highlight the risks and opportunities of decisions 9. Be upfront when things aren't going well 10. Educate on topics that may be new (carbon) 11. Show "what has worked" in the past 12. Coordinate before it's too late Who's got some to add to this list? _______________________ If you like my content give me a follow and hit the bell. Are you an Architect ... or an Architecto? Architects have 1000 skills, but this one is above the rest. The ability to think in scales. I'm not talking about fish, or measurement, or piano. I'm talking about big picture, little picture. What does that look like day-to-day? Thinking in plan, section, elevation, and detail ... ALL AT THE SAME TIME! For great architects, it can seem like a basic skill. But the reality is that it takes decades of practice. It can be easy to focus on one scale and forget about the rest. But a good architect has all in mind at every point. Micro - think small Macro - think big Architecto - thinking big and small. Do you think this way? _______________________ If you like my content give me a follow and hit the bell. I post Monday - Friday @ 6:15am PST. #architecture #design #carbon

Bad engineers look a lot like... Bad architects. The bad ones: - Assume coordination will just happen - Give no warning of major design updates - Copy-paste systems from their last project - Show no initiative The good ones: - Provide proactive solutions - Flag potential coordination issues - Suggest better ways of doing things - Show initiative Engineers and architects are a team. We deliver projects together and can't do it alone. Yes, there is much nuance, and good v bad is oversimplified. BUT if you aren't working together then you're going to have difficulty delivering. Don't get me wrong here, this is easier said than done. But being better at delivering great projects means better communication. _______________________ If you like my content give me a follow and hit the bell. 👉🏼 ARCHITECTS👈🏼 All you have to do is improve 1% EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Let's break that down. 1% of 24 hours is approximately 14 minutes and 24 seconds. But, who's counting?...(I am....cough, cough.) To put it in perspective... that's 1/4 of your lunch break. Dedicate 1/4 of your lunch break to being a healthier architect. If you can complete rise and run calculations...I PROMISE you can do this. You got it from here? ————————————————- Hi 👋 I’m Morgan Chawaga, AIA. I help stressed architects DESIGN + BUILD a better relationship with their career.
