Are you making this common job post error? You might think that casting a wide net is the best way to get candidates to apply for your opening. As a result, you make your job post as generic as possible. However, doing so can actually have the opposite reaction. Candidates want a job that they are going to love. A job that matches their needs, goals, and passions. Candidates want to feel excited about applying for a position. Why? Because while some candidates need a job due to relocation, finishing schooling, or a layoff, most candidates are looking for a job because they want something different and better than what they have. If they want something different than what they have, they are going to be picky about which jobs they submit their resume. If your job post doesn't connect with them, they won't apply. Stop writing to everyone and start writing as if you're speaking to your ideal candidate. It will make a big difference in your candidate pool! -------- What to learn more about the top goal of a job post? Listen to this week's podcast episode, Ep229 - How to Achieve a Job Post's Most Important Goal ------- Do you need a review of your job post to ensure it speaks to your ideal candidate? If you’ve ever thought “If I can just have the chance to show my abilities, I know I’ll get an offer”, you need to know this… 👇 👇 👇 👉 You don’t need to wait until an interview to showcase your value. Here are 3 things you can do to prove your excellence right now (without an interview scheduled) 1️⃣ Survey the organization’s current employees and come up with a proposal based on what you learn. 2️⃣ Put together a portfolio of your projects that most closely fit the work you'd be doing at the company. 3️⃣ Record a Loom video of some research you’ve done on the company and how you think you can help. You can attach these to your application or send it to a contact at the company. Noah Kagan told Mark Manson this in a podcast that was posted last week: “Hiring is all about probability, what is the likelihood that you will succeed at this job?” He goes on to describe that the way that you increase your probability to 100% is to prove that you can do the job successfully. Action item for you: Don’t just brainstorm what you can do to showcase your value, put it in action. REPOST this if it was helpful!

Yesterdays post caused a bit of a stir. I had a message that said that basically they agreed but your posts are basically an online CV. I GET IT. But here’s the thing if I’m looking to hire someone would I want someone who’s authentically themselves or showing everyone what they think you want them to see. I know what I’d prefer. And they would get found out pretty quickly surely in an interview. My point is this. If you read my posts online and then meet me it would be congruent. If you listen to me in a podcast and met me you’d get the same person. There would be no surprises! THIS IS ME. I’m not prepared to be anyone different. If you don’t like me that’s honestly ok with me. I’m not for everyone and neither should you be. The problem is we want to be liked by everyone, which is impossible. If you want that you have to change your mask for everyone you meet. Change your language. I just think thats exhausting! When I work with a client, guess what we get on really well because they’ve seen what I’m like and they get me. I don’t have to pretend to be anyone different and there’s a completely different level of trust and honesty. And we become friends. I also think that’s a great which some would disagree with. That’s ok too! There is no right or wrong way of doing things. Find what works for you 👊🏼

I was listening to Jay Shetty’s podcast On Purpose this morning (a weekly binge for me), and he brought up the idea of resume virtues vs eulogy virtues. It really got me thinking. 👉 Resume virtues = career achievements—the promotions, financial wins, the look what I’ve done! moments. 👉 Eulogy virtues = how we show up as people: a loving partner, a caring friend, someone who leaves others feeling better than they found them. As we wrap up 2024, I’ve been reflecting on how I want to show up next year. Yes, I love growing my business, hitting career milestones and achieving the things I’ve worked so hard for. But for 2025, I want to put more focus on the moments that matter now—not just someday. Here’s how I’m planning to show up in 2025: 💓 Being fully present—in work, in life and in the little moments I might otherwise rush past. 💓 Saying yes to experiences and things that light me up, like travel and seeing the world. 💓 Prioritising the relationships that make life richer. 💓 Creating space to give back in ways that feel meaningful. Because while success feels great, it’s the way we live our lives and show up for others that leaves the real impact. So here’s to redefining what a rich life looks like—not just by what we achieve, but by how we live. What about you? How are you planning to show up next year?
