The Airport Authority intends to increase its investment to HK$100 billion [USD 12.87 billion], thereby significantly expanding the Airport City initiative and enhancing high-end commercial, tourism, and leisure activities. Additionally, the authority is set to introduce several new projects, including a fresh food market, an art industry ecosystem, a second phase of AsiaWorld-Expo, and a yacht marina with supporting facilities. These initiatives aim to further stimulate high-end commercial and leisure sectors, with completion anticipated between 2026 and 2031. The development of Airport City is managed and financed by the Airport Authority, relieving the government of any financial responsibility, and a development framework is expected to be established by the first half of the upcoming year.

Barbuda’s new international airport, officially opened on October 3, 2024, marks a significant milestone for the island’s connectivity and economic growth. The facility features a 6,100-foot runway, a full LED runway lighting system enabling night landings, and a 600-foot parking apron capable of accommodating multiple private jets. This development replaces the previous Codrington Airport, which had a much shorter runway of 1,640 feet. The airport is expected to attract luxury travelers and private jet owners, enhancing tourism and promoting sustainable economic development. Currently, the airport accommodates private flights, with commercial routes anticipated in the future, potentially starting with the U.S. In September 2024, the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda announced that the airport would be named the Burton-Nibbs International Airport, honoring local figures Sir Eric Burton and Arthur Nibbs for their contributions to the nation’s political landscape and development. Overall, the new airport is poised to play a pivotal role in boosting tourism, facilitating international travel, and fostering economic growth for Barbuda.

🌍✈️ Celebrating Teesside International Airport’s Remarkable Return to Profitability! As someone who lives and works locally, I’m incredibly proud to see Teesside International Airport not just surviving, but thriving. Recently, the airport reported its first profit in more than a decade, with an EBITDA of £308,555 on annual revenues of £14.5 million for the year to March 2023. This achievement is a testament to the increased demand for flights to popular destinations such as Spain and Portugal, as well as the significant progress being made on the airport’s business park. This return to profitability is ahead of the airport’s financial plan and comes after it recorded its highest passenger numbers in over ten years. This success isn’t just a financial milestone—it’s a powerful indicator of Teesside’s growing connectivity and economic vitality. For our region, having a local international airport is more than a convenience; it’s a gateway to global opportunities. It supports local businesses by connecting them to international markets, attracts investment to our area, and boosts tourism. Personally, living close to Teesside International Airport is incredibly useful, offering me the flexibility to travel internationally and supporting our local achievements. Portugal will build a new international airport in the municipality of Alcochete, across the River Tagus from Lisbon. The new airport will replace the Humberto Delgado airport, located in Lisbon. The new airport will be built at the site of a military airfield in Alcochete, about 40 km east of Lisbon, and should start operating by 2034. The government decided to name the new airport after the poet Luís de Camões. Opting for a single airport helps mitigate the environmental and social impact on the Lisbon region. The government also announced that to make it faster for the passengers to get to the new airport, the third bridge crossing the Tagus river will be built. The government also declared that the high-speed train between capital of Portugal and Madrid will be constructed till 2034 as well. The tourism industry has grown increasingly in the past few years as Lisbon's main airport is operating at full capacity. Portugal is going through a tourism boom, which attracted record numbers of visitors. Source: https://lnkd.in/gMWyqJ4n

In fact, NAIA’s transformation goes beyond travelers’ convenience – a reliable and modern airport is a key determinant of a country’s competitiveness. It enhances the Philippines’ global appeal as a destination for both tourism and business, attracting significant foreign investments, particularly in the tourism, hospitality, and logistics industries. A modern, reliable airport is more than a piece of infrastructure; one can say that it is a symbol of national progress.
