British seven-time snooker world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has been granted residency in Hong Kong under the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme. O’Sullivan cited several reasons for his decision, including: Low tax rates: Hong Kong has a relatively low tax system, with a maximum income tax rate of 16.5%. This was a significant factor in his decision to relocate. Food and culture: the snooker star praised Hong Kong’s food and culture, stating that he enjoys his time in the city and has made good friends there. Snooker popularity: O’Sullivan noted that snooker is a popular sport in Hong Kong, and he has had many positive experiences playing in the city. As a resident of Hong Kong, O’Sullivan will be subject to the city’s tax laws. However, as a non-domestic source income earner, he will only be taxed on his Hong Kong-sourced income; this means that his income from international snooker tournaments and endorsements will not be taxed in Hong Kong.

Ronnie 'The Rocket' O’Sullivan seems to have become an honourary ambassador for Greater #China. After recently taking up a much-publicised residency of #HongKong under the city’s 'Quality Migrant Admission Scheme', and called it “a great place to live”, he has also been extolling the virtues of the country itself saying, he is “blown away” every time he visits #China, a country he calls “the greatest place on Earth”. As a well-documented Sinophile, such sentiment brings a wry smile to my face. Not being too cynical but I think we can chalk this up to the commercial opportunity that China offers the greatest #snooker player of all time. The Hong Kong tax regime is much kinder to #HNWIs than the #UK and this difference was only widened by the #British government's recent budget. Also, many of the World's biggest snooker tournaments & exhibitions in terms of prize money & appearance fees are now found in China, so from a proximity to his potential earnings perspective, it just makes sense. On a similar note, Brazilian footballer Oscar, who moved to China in 2017 and has just helped his team Shanghai Port retain the Chinese Super League title, has quietly gone about building his wealth. I am not saying this is a major trend, but it does highlight the ability of sports stars to move away from traditional sporting geographies to maintain, improve, or extend their financial success. https://lnkd.in/ePsbHrBz #Snooker #HK #CSL #ChinaSport World Snowboard Federation WST South China Morning Post SCMP Shanghai Daily Hong Kong Tourism Board Hong Kong Government 香港政府

Honfleur, pictured below, is, in my opinion, the best place to visit in France. The country itself is a very unique place. Some great things France: 1) The food - recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity 2) The two hour lunch break - no more needs to be said 3) The Football team - they are rather good after all 4) Polopocco - the best bar in Honfleur Some not good things about France: 1) Traffic jams during the holiday season (August) 2) Olivier Giroud's header to knock England out of the World Cup. The Football Association we'll win it next time! Something unique about France: 1) By September 2026, any business with less than 5,000 people and annual sales of less than €1.5 billion will need to comply with the new Live E-Reporting and E-Invoicing mandate. France will adopt an #einvoicing and Live Reporting model known as Continuous Traction Control, an enhanced version of the 4-Corner Model, adding in the Tax Authorities. Does your business trade in #france and will you be looking for a partner to ensure #tax #compliance? While Malta exudes potential it has noticeably been absent from Soft Power indexes such as those published by Monocle or Portland. However, there is reason for optimism! Contrary to popular belief, inclusion in Soft Power rankings is less about a nation's size and more about its governance and promotional efforts. Some of the top performers are countries not much larger than Malta, such as Singapore (with a land area of 728.3 km², twice the size of Malta), Norway, or Switzerland. In order to stimulate discussion on this topic, this TimesofMalta.com back-page article proposes eight strategic tips—areas for improvement—that Malta should consider addressing to rectify its Soft Power deficiencies...
