The impact of a new American president on Canada is profound due to the strong economic, political, and cultural bonds between the two countries. Changes in U.S. policies, especially in areas such as trade, immigration, and environmental concerns, can directly influence Canada's economy and international relations. For instance, modifications in trade agreements like the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement) could have repercussions on Canadian exports and industries. Moreover, Canada's stance on critical issues like climate change, defense, and foreign policy may evolve in response to the priorities set by the new president. While Canada maintains its independence as a nation, the intimate relationship it shares with the U.S. indicates that the leadership of a new president is likely to shape the future cooperation and challenges faced by both countries. #electionday2024

The latest from the Globe and Mail's business commentary, by Carlo Dade: Canada has become roadkill in global economic competition. In competing globally with the U.S. for economic opportunity, rather than friend or competitor, Canada has often been roadkill.

#oped: Jacob Cooke of WPIC Marketing + Technologies, based in Beijing, argues that it is a strategic and economic necessity for Canada to pursue constructive engagement with China. "A free-trade agreement is unrealistic in the current context, but a study from the Business Council of Canada in 2018 found that such a deal would grow Canadian exports to China by $7.7-billion and create 25,000 jobs – adding to the 400,000 Canadian jobs that already result from Canada-China trade. Making it easier for students, tourists, investors and workers to travel between the two countries – starting with increasing the number of direct flights – should be a priority as we start mending our relationship with China." https://lnkd.in/gNJeZDpU

Canada has a unique culture and society with strong Anglo-French roots and a notable Indigenous presence. 🇨🇦 For Italian businesses, understanding this diversity is key to tapping into market opportunities. With a well-organized economy focused on extractive and energy industries, Canada offers great potential—especially for those bringing innovation and specialized skills. To succeed, companies must navigate local regulations and cultural dynamics, including those of the First Nations. The CETA agreement has eased trade, but Canada's protectionist stance means a local presence is crucial. Building strong networks is essential for a stable and profitable presence in this promising market. Read full article here: https://lnkd.in/eqGmZptP #BusinessOpportunities #ItalyCanada #GlobalTrade

I have been a long proponent of a Canadian industrial strategy and I believe that the recent US election gives us an opportunity to strengthen our domestic economic capacity. This requires massive investment and must counteract small government sentiments. The work of Mariana Mazzucato has been a source of inspiration for me and I hope this piece can start a broader conversation about industrial policy in Canada. With the post-cold war economic consensus being put into question, Canada needs to rethink its approach. Whether we deepen North American integration or choose to diversify our trade, investing in ourselves is long overdue. https://lnkd.in/gyHzHVi4
