I have gone to plants with few team members wearing high heals, or to board meetings where a director has worn sandals. Though power dressing has been attacked by Mark Zuckerberg’s T-shirt and jeans, and new generation wants to keep it casual. Yet I think it’s still important to talk about dressing for the ‘occasion’. History has shown us- from the Red Lipstick Movement after World War II to Margaret Thatcher’s feminine power suits to Indra Nooyi’s elegant style that dressing up influences perception creates identity and individuality. Just 3 tips: 1. Choose Comfort and Safety:In industrial or plant settings, prioritize comfort and safety over fashion. No dupattas, sarees as they could get entangled. 2. Consider Cultural Sensitivities: Any meeting you go for, know the company’s policy/ culture- government meetings- I prefer sarees, Startups- casual, though I carry off a saree as well, essentially keep it professional. 3. Be yourself- while it’s important to dress professionally, have that personal touch as long as it’s appropriate to cultural sentivities.
