I saw this article the other day and I disagree with how the information was presented. HOWEVER, I do think that this could be used as a great interview prep guide. See below: -- TLDR: I don't expect employers to assign much value to soft skills on resumes, BUT this is great to prepare talking points ahead of an interview. -- According to the article, these are the most sought after skills to include on your resume in 2024. Though I do not disagree that these skills are highly desirable in any candidate, merely having them listed on your resume will not prove that you have them. The best way to communicate these skills are by speaking to them during the interview process. Come up with SPECIFIC scenarios for each of the questions below: 1) COMMUNICATION 1A) Describe a presentation that went well 1B) Talk about a time where you shared an idea that your colleagues did not support. 1C) Give me an example of a situation where you had to deal with an upset customer. 2) TEAMWORK 2A) Tell me about a time where you had to work with a colleague that you didn't get along with. 2B) Walk me through a time where your team didn't hit their goal. 2C) How would your colleagues at your last employer describe you? 3) LEADERSHIP 3A) Tell me about a time where you had to make a decision without your supervisor present? 3B) How do you recognize the achievements of your team members? 3C) How do you set priorities as a leader? 4) PROBLEM-SOLVING 4A) Talk to me about a time where you had to manage multiple conflicting deadlines. 4B) Tell me about the last time that you had to get creative with a solution to a problem. 4C) Describe an unexpected problem that you had to solve at your last role. 5) SELF-MOTIVATION 5A) What do you do to remain consistent with current industry trends? 5B) Talk to me about a time where you had to respond to constructive criticism. 5C) Tell me about your 5-10 year plan. Come up with scenarios for each skillset and go into interviews feeling much more prepared! REMEMBER the STAR format! 📄 Your resume isn't failing. Your story is. Here's what hiring managers actually want in 2024: Instead of: "Responsible for sales" Write: "Generated $500K in new business through strategic client outreach" Instead of: "Managed team" Write: "Led 12-person team to achieve 98% customer satisfaction rating" The secret? Your resume isn't a history book—it's your movie trailer. 🎯 Quick wins that get interviews: • Transform job duties into achievement stories • Skip objectives, lead with impact • Show growth trajectory, not just job titles • Write for humans AND AI (yes, both matter now) 🔍 I've broken down the exact formula top candidates use to get past ATS and grab human attention: https://lnkd.in/dkd7pkQk What's the most powerful way you've described your work on your resume? #CareerAdvice #Resume #JobSearch #Hiring

3 lies your unvetted career coach told you. 1) “a resume that beats ATS” - humans review your resumes. Here’s what ATS and AI systems can do: they can rank applications, they can have knock out questions (leading to autorejections) —— AND some systems will parse your Canva formatted resumes poorly and some recruiters will not take an extra look. ➡ Use a PDF. Read the job requirements. Don’t use fancy columns. Keep it simple and clear. 2) “reach out to recruiters to ask to chat with them!” ❌❌❌ ➡️ message a recruiter AFTER you have APPLIED for the role. ➡️ don’t just ask recruiters to keep you in mind! Look at their page and see what their industry is and what their system is. Apply to their open roles, set alerts for the pages, apply to their general apps if you have them. Etc. This will have a much better ROI. 3) “this one trick will help you land interviews.” There isn’t ONE answer. There are multiple answers. However, it is true that a strong resume is important and does HELP enormously ➡️ there are many free resources out there to help & sometimes you need a coach to help you reorient, pull out info that is missing, or to better organize your story. 💕there isn’t one magic trick. Definitely vet your coaches. Read their recommendations and testimonials! Look at their experience and credentials. Some coaches/experts I recommend are: Jess Wass, Liz Schwerd, Erin Riska

As an executive resume writer, I provide a personalized, white-glove experience to my clients. I was talking to a friend last week who said, “Do you have a lot of demand for resume writing? Can’t everyone just use AI now?” Of course AI is a helpful tool for the majority of people. However, most of my clients are very senior, time poor and would rather work with an expert than mess around with a new technology that may give them unreliable results. As an example, here is a list of my last 3 resume clients (Surprise: they don’t all work in HR!). *CEO advisor and Board Director *General manager of a Singaporean tech unicorn *Head of Workforce Planning and HR Strategy for a tech platform *Founder who had recently completed a successful exit to a PE fund If you are looking for a fully bespoke service to help you clarify and define your value proposition on your resume, click on the link in my profile to book in for a confidential chat. #careers#coaching#humanresources ---------------------------------------------------------------- I work with female senior leaders in Human Resources who feel stuck to help them love their work or find work they love. Stop Judging Resumes — Most Jobs Can Be Taught. (Real Talk, You’re Missing Out) I’ve been there. You’re scrolling through resumes, sipping your third coffee of the day, and you land on someone’s profile that’s just... not quite perfect. Maybe they don’t have the exact skills you *think* you need, or they didn’t work at the “right” company. So, you move on. Next. But here’s the thing: **We’ve been sold a lie**. The perfect resume? It’s a myth. What really matters isn’t what’s on paper, but what’s inside the person who’s *sitting* across from you, eager to show up, learn, and grow. And guess what? **Skills can be taught**. I know this because I wasn’t born knowing everything. In fact, I probably messed up more than I should’ve before figuring things out. **Leaders aren’t born** — they’re made through experience, failure, feedback, and a whole lot of learning on the job. Experts weren’t born experts, either. They started with zero knowledge, and eventually, they got better. If they can do it, so can anyone else. Here’s the real talk: **Don’t let a resume be the thing that stops you from seeing potential.** What actually makes someone a great hire? 1. **The right attitude.** You can’t teach someone to be motivated, to give a damn, to want to get better every day. That’s something they have to bring. 2. **A hunger to learn.** The person who asks questions, who isn’t afraid to admit they don’t know, is the one who’ll keep growing and improving. They’ll find solutions before you even ask for them. 3. **A willingness to grow.** You’re not hiring the finished product (and if you are, good luck with that). You’re hiring someone who is ready to evolve, adapt, and become better — and that’s worth way more than a list of qualifications. I’m telling you, when you **bet on potential** instead of experience, you create something special. You build **teams that are strong** and **loyal**. You create an environment where growth is the goal, not just checking boxes on a job description. Think about it: how many times have you been given a shot, despite not having every single skill they were looking for? Someone took a chance on you because they saw something more than a list of qualifications. And because they gave you that chance, you **grew**. You thrived. You *became* the expert. So here’s the challenge: If you’re hiring, stop waiting for that perfect resume. Give someone the chance to prove they’ve got the right attitude, the hunger to learn, and the willingness to grow. You might just be surprised by what they can achieve. Who gave you your first big shot? I’m willing to bet it wasn’t because you had everything figured out. Now, it’s your turn to pass that torch. #Leadership #Hiring #GivePeopleAChance #GrowthMindset
