Is this the key for new economical shift? New generation is not burdened by expectations as heavily as previous one (due to many factors); in addition there is 'perceived abundance of opportunities. Previous generations had lesser exposure to the markets and lesser number of opportunities so they certainly valued them more, even at no pay at all. However, although modern generation seeks 'compensation for their contribution'; realities remain the same. If a company finds your contribution 'valuable and critical'; THEY WILL PAY YOU. If you are not getting paid, that's because in company's view you are, 'expendable'. And herein lies the debate about value proposition for either parties, labor as a commodity and idea of self worth. It is not enough for one to define their own self worth, market should agree to the same. How far would you go to defend that value or even improve on it?

I have observed and noted several benefits of mentorship and internship programmes for broadcasting students through sharing my own practical work skills and experience acquired in many decades and eras not short of ups and downs. Through on- the- job interactions with dedicated mentors future broadcasters acquire practical knowledge,skills and are able to fully understand different processes in the broadcast media job market when they leave college. They are empowered while their competency levels are drastically improved with the mastering of practical skills needed for easy employment in a broadcasting media world of rapid change, competition and convergence. Since there are many temptations serious,honest mentees learn how to handle ethical matters and avoid breaking fundamental rules that protect the broadcasting craft competencies,literacy,best practices and dignity. So as mentors it is critical to also move with the times in regularly upskilling ourselves amid fast technological changes affecting listener, reader and viewer tastes, interests and overall appreciation levels.

INTERNS: As an organisation we eagerly await the outcome of or proposal to take two interns on post Christmas. ☑ We think it is really important to help young people. They get the education but someone needs to give them the experience. ✅ It adds value to our team as we fine tune our coaching skills to optimise their outputs and growth. ☑ We can offer "nice to have" projects to our loyal clients (often important but non-urgent) at very low cost as our supervision is hands off. ✅ We may find, down the line, that we have inspired and grown some of our own future talent. ▶ Logic aside, it feels good ....

Concerns about Intern Training and Competitor Involvement I wanted to address a concerning issue that has come to my attention regarding new interns. It has been brought to my notice that many interns are wasting valuable time during their training period and are potentially receiving training for other organizations that could be our competitors. This is a serious problem that we need to address immediately. Not only is it a waste of resources and time for our organization, but it also poses a threat to our competitive advantage in the market. We cannot afford to have our own interns unknowingly helping our competitors gain an edge over us. I urge all other BPOs near me to take this matter seriously and to take action to prevent any further instances of this happening. We need to closely monitor the activities of our interns and ensure that they are not engaging in any activities that could benefit our competitors. By events like this, it has become evident that many of our competitors lack a proper training program or dedicated trainer to support their team's development. As a result, they are seeking to benefit from our expertise and resources by sending their CON interns to be trained by us.

We’re excited to highlight the important work our interns are doing on the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail (LECL) project, focusing on the Tent of Many Voices and the Bicentennial Film Project. 🎥✨ The project involves editing, inventorying, and preparing hundreds of hours of video content recorded during the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration. These videos feature diverse speakers—many from American Indian communities—who shared their histories, perspectives, and stories during the commemoration. Our interns are involved in every step of the process, from cataloging metadata and subdividing files by speaker, to ensuring that all videos meet 508 compliance standards—making them accessible to everyone through captions, audio descriptions, and detailed title cards. This is an incredible opportunity for our interns to develop skills in film production, project management, and research, all while contributing to the preservation of diverse cultural narratives and histories. Especially because we both started in TV as interns - and got hired from there! #1 - Be A Proactive Intern Instead of being on your phone — be up and doing stuff that isn’t even asked. #2 - Be Smart About Doing Things That Are Visual It gets noticed. #3 - Focus On Showing Your Value (not just what you’re going to learn). Sure, you want to learn. Trust us, you will ALWAYS be learning on the job. But this isn’t an apprenticeship. Focus more on showing you get things done! Especially things nobody wants to do.  (You won’t be doing those things forever)! Things we did as TV interns: - Got coffee & lunch for all the staff  - Packed sandbags in the middle of the desert - Transcribed footage  - Swept the set floor - Took out the trash - Set up & cleaned talent’s dressing room - accionvegana boxes up and down stairs - Spelled out “Will you Marry Me” in olives on a giant pizza These aren’t little things. These are necessary things to make a show happen. I just wanted to share a little bit about what I've been up to this summer and update you all on my internship as it comes to a close! If you don't have 6 minutes to spare, I’ll give you the highlights: 1. It's not what you know, it's who you know. And not in the cliche generic way… it really is WHO you know that gets you where you need to be to show WHAT you know. Don't shy away from transactional professional relationships. That's really how people advance in business. 2. Put your yes on the table and leave it there. Someone is always watching, people notice attributes like willingness, tenacity, and work ethic. It really never goes unrewarded. 3. Ask “dumb” questions. Get all the information you need to do the job well, even if its intimidating. Even if you've asked that question twice already. Ask.
