#DigitalCleanupDay encourages us to rethink our digital lives from an environmental perspective. For while technology is an integral part of sustainable transformation, it is also a significant carbon emitter. The ICT industry's current digital footprint accounts for 3-4% of global emissions, which could increase as technologies like AI are more widely adopted. However, a technology like #AI can be used to significantly reduce emissions not only by driving efficiencies in operational optimisation and data reporting, but also by helping to fight wildfires, identifying and recovering recyclables, and accelerating research into new green technologies. As organisations integrate more digital technologies, this conflict needs to be addressed, which is why our Group, with a carbon reduction target of 90% by 2040, is focused on how we can minimise the impact of the technology we use on our own carbon footprint.
