It is really important to be able to define and track the composition, structure and function of ecosystems ... expressing this in ecosystem condition metrics that talk to the health and resilience of biodiversity at a location ... or in a landscape. This is recognised by a variety of stakeholders - from DFI's investors, regulators, nature-risk disclosure requirements, the science-based targets for nature and the global biodiversity framework. Even, dare I say it, for proving the biodiversity integrity of a carbon project 😊 (and many of those other environmental market instruments). This is the art and science of the possible.

SoilWise, a pioneering metadata repository, is advancing soil data and knowledge management for the European Union Soil Observatory. Open soil data initiatives: Platforms like the European Soil Data Centre (ESDAC) and projects such as SoilWise promote open access to standardized soil data, empowering scientists, policymakers, and farmers worldwide.
