Thought for the Day Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” This famous verse is surrounded by a list of heroes of the faith. Among those are Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and Rahab. Each of them trusted God and were honored for doing so. The object of their faith was God. They trusted God in difficult circumstances. They trusted God rather than themselves. It’s easy for us to emphasize obedience in the Christian life over trusting, but trusting God actually precedes real heart obedience. When we trust God to meet our needs—physical, emotional, relational, etc., we won’t force issues, we won’t manipulate people, we won’t make the task more important than the people we’re leading. Let’s grow in our alertness to when we are and are not trusting God. Daily ask him if there is anything he wants you to specifically trust him to do. Ask him if there’s anything for which you do not really trust him. Monitor your trusting. More trusting leads to more obedience and a better life. Lord, please help me trust you more.
