International Women’s Day is today and this year’s theme is Inspire Inclusion. Here is the Founder of The Equality Institute discussing the deleterious impact of patriarchy embedded in our systems, culture and institutions. Patriarchy is a rigid barrier to inclusion and without understanding and owning our unwitting biases and ties to patriarchal thinking, addressing gender equality and other harmful domineering ideologies will be difficult. As Dr Fulu says, for real change we need more than a morning tea, we need a paradigm shift in our culture. https://lnkd.in/gfP8JKQx

Why do you feel it is important to #InspireInclusion in the workplace? “Inclusion in the workplace empowers individuals to contribute their best ideas and feel safe doing it. It is imperative that we create a world that values everyone equally and that we hold others accountable for this same standard. This goes far beyond just gender equality and includes race, age, physical and cognitive abilities, cultural backgrounds, sexual orientation, education, and so much more.” — Sarah Hagan, President and COO Read more about why our other female leaders feel inclusion is so important and learn about their inspirational career journeys here: https://ow.ly/Ejwy50QLHwL #IWD2024 #ECICulture

A little late in reposting this, but we recently celebrated International Men's Day at Infer. Every year, we see workplaces celebrate women in March, even if it's just to tick a box, it still happens. And invariably, every year, someone will point out "They say it's a man's world, but where is our day?" and the response quite often is "every day is men's day". To the extent of light-hearted workplace banter, that's all good. But there IS a designated day for men. Focused on challenges the notions of the patriarchal society that also limits the authenticity and emotional expression of men. Men are incarcerated in higher numbers, the rate of male suicides is shooting through the roof, and too much space in feminist discourse and activism focuses (and justifiably so) on the problem of Toxic Masculinity. But what about all the ways in which men are challenging the notions of oppressive masculinity, redefining what it means to be a man, for the better? This year's theme of International Men's Day was celebrating positive male role models. And what better way to do that, than to let the men around us know all the ways in which they enrich and improve our lives as colleagues, friends and role models. How do we promote gender equality through play? We use games to tackle important topics like leadership, decision-making, and gender roles. We ensure everyone regardless of gender, feels safe, respected, and valued. After the games, we engage the children in open discussions about fairness, equality, and respect, encouraging them to reflect on how they can apply these lessons in their daily lives. Together, we’re shaping empowered and inclusive communities! How do you promote gender equality in your community? Share your thoughts in the comments! #GenderEquality #InclusivePlay #sportsforchange #UNSDG5

#GenderEquality starts from our homes. Contrary to the traditional view in many families that sewing is exclusively a woman’s domain, the men in my family (Ankit Khanna & Aarya) are challenging these norms. As we advocate for gender equality and #inclusivity in the workplace, it’s crucial to acknowledge that change starts with the attitudes and beliefs we foster at home. Let's be the change.
