MOFA response to US-Italy Consultation on the Indo-Pacific reaffirming importance of peace and stability across Taiwan Strait The US Department of State on May 21 issued a press statement on the United States-Italy Consultation on the Indo-Pacific cochaired by US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell and Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary General Riccardo Guariglia in Washington, DC, earlier that day. The statement noted that the two sides discussed the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. During a congressional hearing that same day, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed that the United States is working with countries around the globe to preserve cross-strait peace and stability and ensure that China cannot unilaterally alter the status quo https://lnkd.in/gBS8tbSF

🌍 New Article Published on Medium! I’m excited to share my latest commentary entitled "AOIP and the South China Sea Dispute." This article delves into one of the most geopolitically charged regions in the world, unpacking its intricate disputes and ASEAN’s efforts to navigate through the turbulence. 📌 Key topics covered: The overlapping sovereignty claims by China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, and Taiwan in the South China Sea; The role of global powers like the U.S., Japan, and Australia in shaping the conflict through freedom of navigation operations; ASEAN’s Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP) as a roadmap for inclusivity, cooperation, and rule of law amid great power rivalries; The realist vs. constructivist perspectives on the AOIP’s efficacy in transforming South China Sea tensions; and The challenges and opportunities for ASEAN’s unity and Centrality in promoting peace and sustainable development.

Winston Peters speech on foreign policy strategy and in particular AUKUS is essential reading for the manufacturing industry - especially those involved in Defence and Space exporting. We are absolutely in a new era of geopolitics, our trade and defence policies need to reflect this and how entwined they are. Across the spectrum of exports, especially manufacturing, I hope that significant consideration is given to policy implementation that supports local capability and content on foreign contracts and reciprocal export opportunities. Full text of New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters speech to New Zealand Institute of International Affairs tonight. Covers a lot, plus a good balanced explanation re. AUKUS Pillar 2 and the government's slow and deliberate consideration of it. I especially recommend that those engaging in hyperbolic outrage over our foreign policy take a breath, then read and consider it carefully and in good faith. https://lnkd.in/gi23Zdih

The Forgotten Path – Civil Societies & Peace After nine months of carnage, suffering and devastation on both sides, the international community is fast losing the faith in ‘business as usual’ tools to resolve the situation. The middle east situation has now firmly penetrated the politics of the Western world, clearly demonstrated in the recent events of EU parliamentary elections. So how do we restore the Solidarity, Peace & Prosperity in the region? Where do we start? Thanks to Deutsche Welle for brining propositions and ideas to seek alternatives to the ‘business as usual’. John Lyndon (Alliance for Middle East Peace) brings the Idea of Civil Societies at the forefront, emphasising the ‘People-to-People’ diplomacy must be bought at the forefront. Thanks John. The path to rebuilding the trust, peace and prosperity in the region is going to be extremely hard and challenging, but it must be done by the Regional Actors. Externalities will only complicate the already fragile peace in the region. They can help by facilitating the peace dialogues, perseverance to limit violence, disarmament, and civic infrastructure rebuilding, But the Peace must be led, discussed, and endorsed by ME and Arab communities and people alone. Let’s give ‘People-to-People’ diplomacy a chance, for Civility & Peace to coexist and rebuilding an Era of Peace and Prosperity for the region.

Lots of interest in the conference on disinformation and Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), organized by the EU Delegation 🇪🇺together with the Embassies of Poland🇵🇱 USA 🇺🇸 UK🇬🇧 and Ukraine🇺🇦 . Thanks to Legislatura de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires for hosting us, and to Marcia Levaggi, Aude Maio-Coliche and Carme Colomina Saló (amongst others) for the excellent and inspiring contributions. Coordination and exchanges of best practices amongst democratic allies are essential if we want to be able to defend ourselves against orchestrated and malign disinformation campaigns aimed at destabilizing our diverse and open societies. https://lnkd.in/dWhFumds
