The FCA's thematic review of retirement income advice is out and it notes significant shortcomings. Platforum's latest Advice in Decumulation report foreshadowed the regulator's concerns around capacity for loss assessment, the sustainability of clients' income withdrawals, and the (related) lack of a defined Centralised Retirement Proposition. It should be noted, though, that some firms are exhibiting good practice, and others are taking steps to improve. Our research found that Consumer Duty is encouraging many advisers to review their use of guaranteed income options, their suitability processes, and the need for a distinct CRP.
