Advocacy in Healthcare: A Call to Action During crises like H1N1 and COVID-19, I realized traditional care couldn’t scale fast enough. 💬 “Seeing 30 patients a day, 7 days a week, would take me 150 years to reach everyone.” The solution? Mass communication. By simplifying complex health information, I empowered underserved communities to make informed decisions and combat misinformation. Healthcare providers must step up as advocates, ensuring every voice is heard and every family has the tools to protect their health. #HealthcareAdvocacy #PublicHealth #HealthEquity #CommunityHealth #DrShaps
How do you educate an entire community with limited time and resources? Ilan Shapiro MD MBA FAAP FACHE faced this challenge during the H1N1 and COVID-19 pandemics, realizing that traditional one-on-one patient communication couldn’t scale to the level needed. 💬 “I did the math: seeing 30 patients a day, seven days a week, would take me 150 years to reach everyone I needed to.” So, what’s the solution? Mass communication. By translating complex health information into accessible messages, he ensured that underserved communities—often left without timely, relevant information—could make informed decisions. His efforts not only combated misinformation, but also prompted important conversations within families. Clear, accessible public health communication is vital. It’s not just about delivering information—it’s about ensuring everyone has the tools to protect their health. 💡 To listen to the entire conversation with Dr. Shapiro, subscribe to our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/d-a9BfRc #PublicHealth #HealthEducation #MassCommunication #HealthEquity #CommunityCare

Stop and roll with it 🎶 Partnerships and collaborations allows for us to give the patient the very best care and gain perspectives as we approach strategies. Many of us involved in drug development are key components to public health. 🤐 How are we communicating? ❓ What questions are we asking? 🧑⚕️ How are we moving the patient forward to better health? During my time serving in AmeriCorps as a Patient Navigator, I was able to identify the challenges patients were having. Transportation, housing, lack of resources and more. In these challenging times its hard for patients to prioritize their health or a clinical trial. But the answer to this was Collaboration! Talking to the right people, getting there needs addressed, and reassuring them of the wins they will make in prioritizing their health. Please find attached a great article about improving community health outcomes. We all want to move therapies to market to help the patient but first we have to make sure the help is prioritized. Resources attached. Thanks Public Health Communications Collaborative
