How do fundraisers learn? How do we share experience, insight and best practice? Why might we be doing this less well than we did forty years ago? And what should be done? In episode three of Two Ps on a Pod, @Mark Phillips and I discuss how knowledge transfer works in the fundraising sector. Far too often the fundamentals can be forgotten in the flurry of new ideas and initiatives that can overload a sector desperate to boost income and recruit more people to support our work. In recent years, fundraising change has become a way of life for a significant number of charities. A great idea that has functioned well for many years becomes squashed by a desire to switch creative direction in search of supposedly even better ideas, as the desire to innovate takes over as the driving force behind ‘great’ fundraising. As a result, the constant truths that define best practice have become blurred and can be lost. So, should fundraising practice be about shiny silver balls, or be rather boring? And is the biggest difference we can make, be not trying to be different? We also dig into the tricky question of where the responsibility should lie for sharing best practice?

How are you using your speaking engagements to make a bigger impact!? 🤔 Last week I had the chance to speak to a networking group for my friend Jen Gaudet I brought my good friends Sam Torres Sr. and Sammy Torres Jr. from BaseballFace Cares, Inc. to help me create an impactful experience for the guests! ⚾️🫶🏻 After I did my talk, I brought up these 2 incredible humans to share about the impact they are making on youth sports around the world! But this is where it gets fun... And where the value of this post is ✅ This is how you can use your talks to start making a bigger impact I told everyone in that room that whoever made a $500 donation to their charity would get a free consultation with me! Id give them some generic ideas of how they could grow their business by adding an impact initiative to it! → I call this my "Consultation By Donation" method. I love supporting people who are committed to making an impact and if you are willing to support my charity, I am willing to give you my time! 💰 We ended up raising over $2,000 that night to help provide more sporting equipment for kids in Venezuela that needed new bats, baseballs, and gloves! It cost me nothing and I delivered a powerful keynote, created some hot leads, and made a massive impact on the charity! Thats a win-win-win ✅ ✅ ✅ Where can you take something you are already doing, but now create more impact with it!?

Yes, we should celebrate our successes! And securing those donations after all the hard work of grant writing, responding to questions, relationship development is a fantastic result, but it's also worth remembering that those little wins might not be just the end result, the donation. Your win is made up of all the actions & conversations that got you to that place - getting the impact information from the delivery people, getting financial information in a good format and getting the budget to add up, getting to a project design that suits clients & delivery, researching the best funder options for your work - all of these are the little incidental wins that add up to the big one! It's more often a collective effort and working collaboratively successfully is also worthy of celebration How a charity or cause gets to be "fit for funding" is just as important - more important maybe - as the fundraising itself
Fundraising strategy development, business planning, workshop facilitation, bid writing & fundraising training for charities & social enterprises
One of the best ways to support your fundraisers through these tough times is to celebrate their success when it comes 🎉 So many fundraisers are feeling under pressure and burnt out right now. Even the best are hearing no more often than they hear yes. And it's tough. But fundraising is a funny game. When things are going wrong, everyone wants to talk about it and everyone has an opinion. But when it's going well? In my experience, crickets 🦗 or a quiet nod at most. So when that big grant or donation comes in, when people's hard work on a major event or campaign pays off, take a moment to shout about it and thank everyone involved. It's quick, it's free, and it'll do more than you imagine to support your organisation's fundraising efforts right now.

Endurance Adventure. *** Governing our country should be an endurance adventure, not a culture war. When we take on challenges because they are hard, push through resistance when everything goes to @#$!, and regroup for rest, we build endurance. The Liberatus creative cycle, connecting policy debates to everyday conversations with renewed values, is built to be an endurance adventure, so you and many Americans can participate to make our country more just and free. To create Volume Two, leader training, and community connections, we’ve set a goal of raising $2,000 in monthly donations. That’s part of the bigger goal of raising $1m over five years to become a biannual publication and national grassroots organization. Here’s the direct link to set up your plan: https://lnkd.in/e5MeMxMw Build endurance.
