🧠 World Mental Health Day: Prioritizing Our Students’ Well-Being Today, on World Mental Health Day (October 10th), I want to emphasize the importance of mental health support in our schools. As a candidate for the Frederick County Board of Education, I fully support the DELTA Program, which is designed to address students’ emotional and psychological well-being by providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed both academically and personally. 💡 What is the DELTA Program? The DELTA Plan aims to integrate social-emotional learning, mental health resources, and peer support systems into our schools. This holistic approach ensures that every student has access to counselors, mental health services, and the skills to manage stress, build resilience, and foster positive relationships. ✅ As a Board Member, I Will: 🍎Advocate for increased funding and resources for school-based mental health services. 🍎Support teacher training in identifying and addressing mental health concerns. 🍎Promote safe spaces for students to talk openly about their emotional well-being. 🍎Ensure that mental health is a priority in curriculum planning and school policies. Our students’ mental health is the foundation for their success in school and beyond. By supporting the DELTA Program, I am committed to building a school system that cares for the whole child—academically, emotionally, and socially. #WorldMentalHealthDay #VoteMonier #FrederickCountyBOE #DELTAPlan #MentalHealthMatters #SupportOurStudents

Did you know that mental health and education are deeply related? Especially in marginalized communities, integrating mental health support into educational programs is vital. 🤝 Here's why: 1️⃣ Better Learning Outcomes: A healthy mind is key for cognitive development, learning capacity, and improved academic performance. 2️⃣ Building Resilience: Adequate mental health support equips individuals with resilience skills, a crucial tool needed to navigate the adversities these communities often face. 3️⃣ Breaking Stigmas: Including mental health in education helps reduce the stigma associated with emotional well-being issues, encouraging more people to seek help when necessary. At Aldaba Foundation, we put this philosophy into action. Our programs aim not just to provide quality learning opportunities but also create an environment that nurtures holistic development of our learners: body, mind, and spirit. The power of empathy can't be underestimated! Together, let's create safe spaces where underserved communities can flourish academically and emotionally. What other ways do you think we can integrate mental health support within educational frameworks? We'd love your insights! In my latest video, I explore the critical importance of mental health education for young men. This demographic often faces unique challenges and societal pressures that can stigmatize their struggles and discourage them from seeking help. My video aims to break down these barriers, advocating for open conversations about mental health, tailored education programs, and accessible resources. By fostering an environment that supports vulnerability and understanding, we can empower young men to prioritize their mental health, build resilience, and seek support without fear of judgment. This initiative not only benefits individuals but also contributes to the broader goal of cultivating a healthier, more empathetic society. https://lnkd.in/gPKPs5XD

Prioritising Mental Health: Supporting Our Teachers for a Better Tomorrow On October 10, 2024, in recognition of #WorldMentalHealthDay, Shout had the privilege of participating in a crucial dialogue focused on the mental health of teachers, themed "Care and Support for Our Teachers." Organised by the Department of Basic Education and the Psychosocial Directorate, and chaired by Dr. Andile Dube from UNICEF South Africa, the event brought together diverse stakeholders to address the pressing issue of teacher mental well-being. Key presentations shed light on the psychological impact of teaching, offering strategies for stress management and fostering emotional resilience. Esteemed organizations such as SACE, the ChildMind Institute, DPSA, SADAC, and SAPA shared invaluable insights and strategies to enhance care and support for educators. Listening to educators and principals share their personal experiences was both eye-opening and moving. Their stories highlighted daily challenges and underscored the immediate and urgent need for increased psychological support. The discussions emphasized the importance of implementing mental health programs in schools and providing access to tailored services like the Teacher's Chatbot. The consensus was clear: Prioritizing mental health support within education is essential for teachers and the collective well-being of the entire educational system. As we acknowledge teachers' vital role in shaping young minds, investing in their well-being becomes imperative. At Shout-It-Now, we are proud to commit to supporting adolescents and young people's mental health through our initiative, offering free mental health screenings and referrals. Our goals are to: Identify early warning signs of mental health concerns Provide access to quality mental health services Ensure timely interventions for vulnerable adolescents and young people By collaborating and prioritizing mental health, we can create a supportive environment that benefits educators, students, and the entire education sector. "Together, we can significantly impact mental health in education. Let's invest in our teachers—they invest in our future daily."

💚 It's #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek! 💚 Today the #DirtIsGood Project is showcasing some amazing work from schools across the UK who have united in compassion to raise awareness and promote mental health and wellbeing. Check out the stories below for #Inspo... ⭐ Wood Green Academy - The School Run was an ongoing activity at Wood Green Academy but attendance was always very low. #Changemakers decided to get stuck in promoting attendance and increasing the number of participants as they recognise that being physically active can have a positive impact on a person’s mental health. Thanks to their perseverance, they were able to motivate and encourage not only students but also teachers to join the club, with around 50 students coming along each week! ⭐St Thomas The Apostle - #Changemakers took action with around 100 students across the school to explore the impact of social media on mental health and to take action to tackle the stigma that still surrounds mental health, particularly for boys. #Changemakers gained the trust of their younger peers and encouraged them to open up about their feelings. They felt confident to lead discussions on mental health promoting their key message that there is no shame in talking about it. ⭐Sandwell Academy - Changemakers asked students in their school why mental health is important and what they can do to help others. They used the responses to create their own poster about mental health and wellbeing to be displayed on the school's walls.
