💡 Important lesson learned for PayPal here: Get users to 📱 engage on your platform - even if they are not (yet) your own customers. Very much applicable to those working on #openbanking use cases: Give users an opportunity to get to know you 😍 without fully committing (BBVA has been doing this for a while - see screenshot in comments).

PayPal unveils new money pooling feature available in the US, Germany, Italy and Spain #PayPal has unveiled a new #money pooling feature, now available in the U.S., Germany, Italy, and Spain, that simplifies shared expenses among friends and family. This addition enables users to easily create and manage funds for group gifts, travel plans, and special events within the PayPal app or online platform. Through this feature, users can set up a pool, invite contributions, track funds, and transfer them seamlessly to their PayPal balance for easy spending or withdrawal. This innovative #fintech approach aligns with PayPal’s commitment to providing convenient solutions for everyday social and #financial interactions. According to a recent PayPal survey, U.S. consumers pooled money for group expenses around 86 million times last year, emphasizing the demand for simplified group payment solutions. John Anderson, PayPal’s SVP and General Manager of Consumer, expressed excitement about offering a no-cost option for collecting group funds, enhancing how users can navigate both social connections and financial transactions with ease. The pooling feature is free for PayPal users, and contributions can be made at no charge from PayPal balances or linked bank accounts. Organizers can invite contributors with or without a PayPal account, and the funds can be transferred instantly to PayPal balances or linked accounts, ensuring flexibility and peace of mind backed by PayPal’s 24/7 fraud monitoring and encryption. As the holiday season approaches, this launch adds a new layer of ease and security to group gift-giving and shared expenses, reinforcing PayPal’s role as a trusted partner in digital payments. If you could learn one thing from the founders of PayPal, it’s this: Give away free money. Here’s what actually happened 👇 In the early 2000s, PayPal was trying to break into the online payments market. But the market was so crowded that they needed a way to stand out. But they had no idea how. So they did something outrageous. They literally starting paying people to sign up to PayPal. Here’s how they did it: Free money → PayPal offered every new user $10 just for signing up. Refer a friend → If you got someone else to sign up, both of you got $10. Instant value → Users could immediately send their bonus cash to their bank accounts. This made the offer irresistible. And believe it or not, the plan actually worked. Users started coming in left and right and they wouldn't stop using PayPal because it was that good. So the PayPal team decided to spend millions of dollars on this strategy of giving away cash. Although they eventually stopped the strategy, PayPal grew to over 100 million users. This success caught eBay’s attention, leading to its acquisition for a cool $1.5 billion. Lesson: Sometimes the easiest way to get people to try your product is to offer them something they can’t resist—like free money.

ANYONE WHO USES PAYPAL READ THIS, THEY ARE KEEPING FUNDS MAKING POOR EXCUSES AND STEALING YOUR MONEY IN THE FORM OF INTEREST! This is my comment on their Q1 Profit reporting post. "It reports 1st quarter earnings because you are STEALING from your customers and your call centres based in Asia have no powers to do anything, your algorithm, according to your vall centre, decides itself which money to keep on hold and then decides what date it'll be released!! Your website says 21 days but your call centre said the opposite! You have had my money for over 21 days even after all protocols were followed to release and you now plan to keep my money for a further week and 3 days earning you even more interest. You are lying to customers and stealing their money under the guise of an algorithm and a call centre thats about as much good as sandwhich filler with no bread!! What a disgusting way to treat people your website states UP TO 21 DAYS and you happily break this statement in order to make you interest nothing more. All feedback from my buyer was positive and youd think in 3 weeks he'd have a complaint as normally electrical goods are TWO WEEKS from retail. Id like a response and I'd like a response QUICKLY!"
