Since winter storm Uri and Texas legislation in 2021, for weatherization, #ERCOT has carried out 2,892 inspections of generation and transmission facilities. This summer, the Midwest has faced its fair share of summer storms. More severe weather, including tornadoes and flash floods, can wreak havoc on electrical systems and expose residents to even more danger. The University of Illinois College of ACES (Agricultural, Consumer & Environmental Sciences) has provided the following tips on staying safe during severe summer storms: · Assemble a kit with essentials like water, battery-operated flashlights, and radio or other communication devices, · Keep a list of emergency phone numbers handy, including the number of your electric utility, · Consider installing ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) to detect power surges and cut off electricity, · Avoid standing water, especially near downed power lines and exposed wiring systems.
