I'm excited to announce that, in September, I'll be taking on a hiking challenge to support a cause close to my heart – education. Where could your donation make a meaningful impact? As a researcher I’d be remiss if I didn't share a few data points: -  In Sub-Saharan Africa ~40% of the population lives in extreme poverty (see Michail Moatsos' work based on the 'cost of basic needs' approach cited by ourworldindata.org) -  The median age in Cameroon is 17.9 years (2024) -  …and access to education is severely deficient: less than 80% of Cameroonians finish primary education and less than finish 50% lower-secondary education Are things improving? Yes – but way too slowly – and your help would make a real difference in the lives of children in need. This is why on the 15th September, along with my colleagues, I'll be hiking the majestic mountains of Chamonix. Our mission is to raise €200,000 for the PATRIZIA Foundation and the PATRIZIA School Bafia in Cameroon. By sponsoring this cause, you'll support the provision of better education, new classrooms and sanitary facilities and construction of a new building that securely encloses the schoolyard. Our ambitious plans also include installing a well for fresh water and providing solar-powered electricity. All of this is for a school that currently lacks running water and electricity.
