Day 20: The Transformative Power of Education✊🏽
Education is more than a journey; it’s the light that guides us through life. It ignites our curiosity, fosters growth, and empowers us to reach our fullest potential. Every child deserves the right to this transformative experience.
Beyond the confines of classrooms and textbooks, education:
- Encourages critical thinking and creativity: Inspiring us to explore new ideas.
- Builds confidence and self-expression: Allowing us to share our voices and visions.
- Bridges cultural and socioeconomic divides: Promoting understanding and collaboration.
Through education, we discover:
- Our passions and strengths
- Resilience in the face of adversity
- Meaningful connections with others
- Fulfilling careers that reflect our values
The impact of education extends far beyond the individual. It drives innovation, fosters social progress, and promotes equality in our communities.
Let’s advocate for the right to education for every child, ensuring that all have the opportunity to thrive.

🌟 Empowering the Next Generation: Future Focus Initiative Recap 🌟
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - Nelson Mandela
On November 13th, I carried out an inspiring project as part of my Millennium Fellowship program, themed Future Focus Initiative. The event was dedicated to empowering students and fostering hope for a brighter future.
We visited two public secondary schools and had the privilege of hosting Mr. Adebowale Baiye, a remarkable guest speaker, who engaged the students in vital discussions. He touched on topics such as premarital sexual engagement, drug abuse, the dangers of negative peer influence, and the pursuit of academic excellence. By sharing his personal journey, Mr. Baiye was able to connect deeply with the students, encouraging them to stay focused, make their future selves proud, and honor their parents through their achievements.
Adding to the inspiration, alumna from each school—who have gone on to excel in their respective fields—spoke passionately to the students. They emphasized that attending a public school does not define one’s potential or limit one's success. Their stories resonated with the students, illustrating that they, too, could rise beyond current circumstances.
A heartfelt shout-out goes to my friend Sodiq "Ade" Sanusi, the coordinator of my millennium fellowship cohort Marvellous Owolanke , Jesugbemi Titilayo, an alumna of one of the schools, Shehu tijani Adebayo, Riliwan Ogunranti and other incredible volunteers who participated, pairing one-on-one with students and providing them a safe space to ask pressing questions and receive guidance.
The impact of the day was undeniable. Beyond the event, it was heartening to see students reaching out for mentorship, signifying the sustainability of this initiative.
Additionally, we created a platform to bridge the gap between the students and various opportunities, equipping them with resources to reach their full potential.
This experience reinforced the importance of community, mentorship, and the power of shared stories in shaping the future of teenagers and youth.
Here's to building more platforms that create long-lasting change! 🚀

Last week, 18-24 March 2024, was Neuro Diversity Celebration Week, a global initiative that was started in 2018 by Siena Castellon, MBE, at that time a 16 year old Neuro-diverse school pupil. It was and is intended to encourage schools, colleges and universities to focus on the strengths and talents of Neuro diverse young people rather than their weaknesses and limitations. To facilitate this objective educators are able to obtain free educational resources from www.Neurodiversityweek.com.
While supporting such an objective HES also wants to celebrate Neurodiversity. As we are in awe of the colours of the rainbow, the rainbow infinity sign being the symbol of Neurodiversity, so we need to marvel at the diversity of the human mind. Accordingly the efforts of such advocates as Siena Castellon and Rebecca Bowyer need to be applauded. They are not just raising our awareness of Neurodiversity but helping to bring about much needed change, helping to create a fairer, more caring society that recognises that we cannot and must not waste our scarce Human Resources simply because they do not fit the accepted Neurotypical stereotype.
As the Swedish environmental activist, Greta Thunberg, has recognised Neurodiversity is not a gift it is “an endless fight against schools, workplaces and bullies. But under the right circumstances, given the right adjustments it CAN be a super power”. Join us in celebrating those who are helping to bring about the “right circumstances”. We are going to need super powers if we are to save our planet and its people.

NMU participated as one of 40 host institutions for the nationwide Amplifying Student Voices (ASV) Convening on Oct. 5. The hybrid event brought together more than 400 student leaders to engage in both virtual and in-person dialogues on the future of belonging, diversity and equity in higher education, and on strategies for fulfilling the promise of an inclusive democracy.
“It was important that NMU participate in this national convening because it provided a platform to listen to and engage with student voices directly,” said Shawnrece Butler, NMU assistant vice president for Diversity and Inclusion. “These dialogues empowered students to shape the narrative around inclusive campus environments, offering institutions valuable insights into what students need to feel connected and supported and offering essential information from which to create student-centered policies and practices that genuinely reflect their needs and aspirations.”

When students see themselves as problem-solvers, they become innovators. We open that door.
In college, one of my instructors defined engineers as problem-solvers. That definition always resonated with me and fueled my journey as an innovator.
It's #GivingTuesday, and your support turns students into innovators, leaders, and groundbreakers. Behind every line of code, STEM challenge, and robot built, our students discover something bigger: their power to solve real-world problems and change their communities forever.
As an example, there's Janiya. At age 6, she started with LET'S GO's robotics team and discovered her passion for engineering. Today, she's a Project Engineer with the US Army Corps of Engineers, managing crucial infrastructure projects in Tampa Bay.
"Just because you don't see people who look like you, don't be discouraged. Follow your dreams," she tells students following in her footsteps.
Your gift today helps build:
• Critical thinking skills that last a lifetime
• Confidence to tackle complex challenges
• Career pathways into high-demand fields
• A more diverse and innovative STEM workforce
• Strong role models for the next generation
LET'S GO and empower more bright minds like Janiya. Your #GivingTuesday donation creates pathways to success through hands-on STEM, engaging workshops and programming, and mentorship programs that spark a passion for innovation. That "spark" is something that both Janiya and I share.
Donate Now and join us! Let's start building tomorrow's STEM leaders today.

This #GivingTuesday, let's come together to create lasting change. By supporting STEM education opportunities we can break down barriers, uplift communities, and open doors to new opportunities for all. Your generosity today helps LET'S GO provide the tools, resources, and support that empower the next generation of innovators and leaders.
With your gift, we can ensure that every student—regardless of their background—has the chance to thrive and find their path in STEM. Together, we’re shaping a more inclusive future, where education unlocks potential.
