Happy Weekend, and Happy PARK(ing) Day!🏞 inCitu got an early start on #ClimateWeekNYC this week with lots of environmental programming! Here's a recap: 🛣 Downtown highway remedies are gaining traction across the country and breathing fresh air into downtowns and neighborhoods scarred by urban renewal. At International Downtown Association's #IDASea2024, we did a mockup of what reconnecting City of Seattle's I-5 corridor would look like. There's a real movement for this (lidI5.org) and we hope AR can contribute to making previously unimaginable undertakings feel within reach! 🏝 Sarah Vitale, AICP from Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council was our special guest for inCitu's second webinar on immersive visualization for climate resilience project. Sarah argued that to communicate climate risks and solutions that motivate, planners need to become multimedia storytellers-- we couldnt agree more! TBPRC's Alana Todd also put together a special AR demo with inCitu in just a few hours showing a #bioswale or living shoreline in context! 🗽Huge shoutout to Clay Starr and the Esri team for hosting an amazing workshop on GIS for Architects at Ennead Architects office in one world trade yesterday! Key takeaway: we cant make the built environment more sustainable by designing from blank pages. #ExistingConditions matter, and bringing urban planning into data-rich 3D can help those who build our cities achieve better outcomes. At the end of the day, we demoed inCitu AR in lower Manhattan, showing how stakeholders and the public can put context sensitive architecture to practice and finally see and have public conversations about proposals in their natural place. As we kick off climate week, what spatial conversations need to be had in your city? What futures might we explore together to find better paths forward? #ExistingConditions #GIS #AugmentedReality #UrbanPlanning #ClimateChange #EmergingTechnology #CommunityEngagement #BIM #Codesign #DataInformedDesign #PARKingDay Shiori Sasaki, AIA, ENV SP, LEED AP Lucrecia O'Har Alana Pogostin Roger Weld, PE, PMP, MBA Patrick Gahagan Carmela Quintos Andrew Buck, AICP Renia Kagkou Aurelie Barbier

Toole Design Group, Smart Mobility, Visible City, and Our Streets Minneapolis released a whopper of a new report yesterday, analyzing the feasibility of a highway-to-boulevard conversion in the Twin Cities. The Rethinking I-94 project is one of the most consequential infrastructure projects in Twin Cities history. It will impact multiple generations. Our collaborative report, "Reimagining I-94: A Report on Reparative Highway Alternatives & Evaluation Metrics," addresses how removing I-94 would work, what it might look like, and what community benefits it would unlock. Here's the report! https://lnkd.in/gpecxRUp #Rethinking94 #HighwayConversion #Multimodal #FutureCities #OurStreets

Future of design? Participatory. Just as I was about to wrap up my day at the #SmartCityExpo in Barcelona, a presentation caught my eye—like a cat spotting a laser pointer 🐾🌆 . 🎤 The speaker? Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Rainer Noennig, the maestro of Digital City Science at HafenCity Hamburg GmbH Universität 🌍. He dove into participatory design 🤝—a topic that started to catch my attention recently. 🤩 After his talk, I had the chance to chat with Prof. Noennig. We discussed how his team tackles urban complexity 🏙️ using digital tools 💻, blending architectural design 🏛️, urban planning 🗺️, media tech 📡, IT 🔧, and software development 🖥️ into a harmonious symphony 🎶. Their work spans from deep-dive research 📖 to hands-on projects 🛠️, all while sharing knowledge through teaching and training 🎓. ✨ I’m excited to share our conversation soon! We explored how data-driven methods 📊 are not just buzzwords 💬 but are actively shaping the future of our cities 🌟. #design #participatorydesign #urbanplanning #community #story Mehmet Akif Ortak Torsten Holmer PS. if you do good work, and go to any expo/event, please use this free tool I've created to communicate the work you do - https://video.iggy.love - world needs to know about you!

Foster + Partners used #OasysMassMotion to explore the effect of social distancing and to test a variety of mitigation scenarios for the South Sabah project. The Urban Design Group ran a proximity analysis report which showed how people would move within a two-metre distance of each other. This allowed designers to test the residential density against the amount of public open space within a typical neighbourhood. What #factors impact a #city's #walkability ❓❓ This is a fundamental question when developing a #walkability #index. And while it's tempting to answer by listing various factors, a more insightful first response might be, "Which city?" I am excited to announce that our #new #paper on developing a city-specific #walkability #index through a #participatory approach, with #Amsterdam as a case study, has been published at the #agile2024 conference and is now available online #openaccess. This work is based on the excellent research conducted by Matias Cardoso for his MSc thesis and is co-authored by Matias Cardoso, Maurice Harteveld, and myself. Our approach consists of 3 simple steps: 📖 Study the #literature to list the factors most commonly found to impact walkability (including literature related to the city of your interest). 💬 Ask #urban #experts who work in Amsterdam to prioritize the identified walkability factors while considering the characteristics and citizens of #Amsterdam. 🎬 Based on the experts create an overall walkability index, and sub-indices per theme (e.g., related to #landscape or #proximity), visualize them, and analyze them. Want to know more? 📜 Check out our open-access paper here: https://lnkd.in/dCmSnmU8 🗺 Interact and explore the developed walkability index through #CTstreets here: https://bit.ly/ctstreets ℹ Join Matias Cardoso who will be presenting our work at the #agile2024 conference on Friday (7th of June) during the Best Full Paper competition session 🤞 🤞 🤞 Delft University of Technology TU Delft | Industrial Design Engineering AMS Institute #urbananalytics #walkability #sdg11 #opendata

Advising Public Sector Agencies to Deliver Effective Digital Services
5moI just love this! AR is solving real problems by enabling the public to easily understand the context of development. Think about the next time you see the scene in the photo below and ask yourself, “What is this proposed R4-Rezone Multiuse Development 2D site plan look like in 3D?”
