Oxford Innovation Space launches property technology incubator to support SMEs 🏘️⚙️ Two South East companies have trialled their technologies, which address net zero challenges in properties, at innovation centres managed by Oxford Innovation Space. The latter has launched a property technology (PropTech) incubator programme to support start-ups developing potentially groundbreaking technology for commercial and residential buildings. Cambridge-based Infersens, which has developed intelligent water sensors that monitor water flow and temperature to minimise waste and improve sustainability, has carried out a trial installation of its first product Cortense at the Heyford Park Innovation Centre near Bicester. Meanwhile, Oxford's EcoSync has installed smart valves to monitor room usage and temperatures for a trial period at the Oxford Centre for Innovation and the Mansfield Innovation Centre in Nottinghamshire. ✨ Reflections on the Trimble Construction Startup Competition 2024 ✨ One week ago, I had the pleasure of attending the Trimble Inc. event, and it was an inspiring experience! First, a big congratulations to the three finalists of the competition: 🏆 1st place: Ralf Pfefferkorn with Sodex Innovations 🥈 2nd place: Gary Chen with Raise Robotics 🥉 3rd place: Sarah Buchner with Trunk Tools Your innovative ideas are helping shape the future of construction—well deserved! 👏 🌿 I was also honored to join the panel discussion, “Leadership in Sustainable Construction: Adopting Current Strategies and Pioneering Future Innovations with Insights from Industry Leaders.” Alongside speakers from Cemex Ventures, Ferrovial, Zacua Ventures, The Haskell Company, Caterpillar Inc., Leonard, Hilti Venture we explored how we can accelerate the adoption of sustainability practices and the internal efforts driving these changes. 👀 What stood out was that this panel was the only one focused on sustainability during the event—a contrast to many conferences in Europe, where sustainability takes center stage in numerous discussions. The audience’s questions about how regulations influence companies' environmental efforts were especially insightful, reflecting how these topics resonate differently depending on regional contexts. 💰 Another compelling takeaway came from the discussion on hardware investments in construction. Prominent VC funds shared their views on the high risks associated with hardware, yet at NOVA by Saint-Gobain, we’ve committed to supporting transformative solutions like Fortera and CarbiCrete. While digital innovations are important, we firmly believe hardware plays an irreplaceable role in achieving meaningful, long-term impact. 🙏 Thank you to Trimble and all participants for fostering such engaging and thought-provoking conversations. It’s exciting to see how collaboration across regions and perspectives can drive the future of sustainable construction! Eliot Jones, Chris Stern, Mateo Zimmermann Gonzalez, Ibon Iribar, Miguel Carralón Zornoza, Gonzalo Galindo Gout, Luis Amorim, Ciro Acedo Boria, Louis COTTIN, Corentin CANIEGO, Victoria Smith, Antonia Elisa Soler Blasco, Greg Matthews, Cutler Knupp, Leah Royalty, Sven Harmsen #ConstructionInnovation #SustainabilityInConstruction #StartupEcosystem

Tokyo and the surrounding region is an exciting location to learn about construction, because it's an area rife with technological innovation. That fact will be on full display at our Tokyo Summit, taking place later this month. As with each of our conferences and summits, the 2024 Tokyo Summit will include a Demo Day competition in which a number of leading edge startups will take center stage for a chance to, yes, showcase the innovation(s) upon which their business is built, but also demonstrate their knowledge of the industry and their respective markets. In an industry where need and increased investor attention is inspiring a wave of innovation, it's no longer enough to simply have a "cool" innovation. We're in an era where construction professionals are looking for sophisticated solutions to serious and likely complicated problems. Do you understand the industry? Do you understand your end users—what they want, need, and are asking for? Can they afford your solution? Can they afford to go without it? These and more are the questions our Tokyo Summit Demo Day judges will be asking. Join us in Tokyo to see if our presenters have the answers.
