Last week during our company-wide update, People Director, Zoë Ogden, delivered our very own #impressionwrapped 🎁 Impression Wrapped was all about how far we’ve come, how we’re supporting our people, and what we have planned to achieve our vision of being the best place for digital talent to transform their careers. In this clip, we reflect on our successful 4.5-day working week following a trail we ran last year, and how we fully implemented it this year. Stay tuned for part 2 in the new year 🗣️

🚀 The Early Days of WorkWeek: A Glimpse Behind the Scenes We recently sat down with our CTO, Tristan D., to discuss the journey of building WorkWeek from the ground up. In this snippet, Tristan shares the magic that drove our early success—delivering solutions quickly, building trust, and listening closely to what clients needed most. 🌟 He reflected on the turning point where everything "just worked": "Here's your dashboard link, here's your clock-in link... and seconds later, it’s functional." 💻✨ That real-time responsiveness helped us create a platform with real impact—simplifying processes, fostering trust, and making the workplace fairer for everyone. It’s more than just efficiency; it’s about transforming the way blue-collar employees and employers relate to each other. WorkWeek is here to build trust, accountability, and a culture that values fairness. 💡 Stay tuned for the full story of our origin and how we’re changing the future of workforce management. 🚀 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gPtJYtXD #WorkWeek #Innovation #CTOInsights #BlueCollarTech #StartupJourney #WorkforceManagement #TechForGood

Today marks the beginning of a new working week, the second day in the month, and the final chapter of this year. It’s the perfect time to pause and reflect: What have you achieved so far? What lessons have shaped you? What’s one goal you can still conquer before the year ends? In HR, we often remind teams that every moment counts. The same applies to our personal growth. December may be the last month of the year, but it’s also an opportunity to finish strong, refine our focus, and set the stage for a brighter future. Let’s approach this month with intention and energy. Take that leap, support a colleague, or start that initiative you’ve been planning. Let’s make these last 29 days count.

If we’re still talking about the 4-day workweek in a decade… We might as well just hit the rewind button — because something went horribly wrong. Automation is poised to change the trajectory of humanity. Do we really want to center such a profound shift on shaving a few hours off our workweek? That would be missing the point. This is about transforming everything we do… Working less and smarter should just be a given. The real game-changer? How automation will elevate our lives: Unlocking creativity. Boosting well-being. Driving innovation. The future isn’t about cutting our days… It’s about giving us back our time.

Friday is a special day of the week. It marks the transition from the working week to the weekend. Times of transition are always great opportunities for reflection. So every Friday I ask my team three questions: - How happy were you were at work this week? - What went well? - What didn't? The first allows us to track how the week went for all of us. The second helps us build on the positives. The final question to tackle the things holding us back. How happy have you been this week? What's gone well for you? What hasn't? (and have a good weekend!)

Count down to a shorter working week for Global Witness On 4 November Global Witness will begin its shorter working week (SWW) pilot. All our employees will work a 30-hour week with a Friday off with no loss of pay. It has taken us 12 months to get ready for the pilot and I wanted to share our experiences in designing our SWW pilot in case its useful for other organisations considering whether a SWW would work for them. 🤝Partner with a SWW expert. We partnered with The Autonomy Institute who have been a delight to work with. They’ve been there every step of the way to create a pilot which meets the needs of our work and people. Their expertise has been invaluable. Thanks Tatiana Pignon, Kyle Lewis and Grace Western for your insight, patience, knowledge and all round general amazing-ness. 💚 Carry out focus groups and 1:1’s by demographic not teams. We knew that a SWW had the potential to impact people in different ways so we made sure that our focus groups and 1:1's allowed for different perspectives 💚 Ensure you have adequate internal resources when designing your pilot. Our People Team priorities were impacted this year as we’ve redirected resource to designing the pilot. From engaging with our staff and our Board, gathering baseline data for our evaluation framework, working with teams to develop their SWW plan and working with our legal partners to make sure the pilot is legally compliant in all countries we work in – we didn’t expect it to take up so much time and resource. 💚 See it as an experiment. We nearly fell into a trap of over designing the pilot. This was showing up as if we didn’t anticipate every potential obstacle and barrier and have a solution for every eventuality the pilot could fail. This was stressful and unrealistic. We’ve switched our mindset and are starting the pilot knowing that some elements won’t go well, and we can’t possibly anticipate everything. When this happens, we will stop, pause, adjust and move on. 💚 Enjoy the process. There will be barriers and obstacles to overcome, and there were moments when THE FEAR crept in. BUT we’ve gained great insight into how our staff feel and we’ve loved that this has been a collective effort to design something where everyone has a part in making it a success. I'm looking forward to sharing what we’ve learned during the trial in 6 months from now…If you’re considering a SWW for your organisation and would like to hear more about Global Witness’ experience please message me. #4dayweek #shorterworkingweek #hr #hrdirector
