I’m excited to be in Barcelona this week for #TheNTWKSummit, which is taking place on May 28th-29th. This Summit has grown rapidly to become Europe's top summit for platform & ecosystem innovation, gathering many of Europe top companies, platform leaders, practitioners, and scholars.
Over the past decade, platforms have emerged as powerful businesses. In Europe, platforms have been criticized as "gatekeepers" that control access to market opportunities.
However, the truth is they are far more impactful as "gate openers." Platforms unlock tremendous value by reducing transaction costs, improving discoverability, and enabling powerful network effects. This is not just true for traditional linear business transactions, but increasingly for circular models that extend product lifespans and close resource loops. Platforms open the gates to new markets, new customers, new partnerships, and new innovative business models that would be extremely difficult to access through traditional means.
